New helmet Shrey bargain or Masuri
« on: July 23, 2016, 03:38:46 PM »

Hello,
Looking for a new helmet probably a shrey but i am not sure which model to buy in the midrange. The level of fast bowlers is not very high so not really looking at top of the top.
Please share if you know more cheap anywhere online. So far this is the cheapest i have found.

Not really comparing apples with apples with those two options, one titanium one steel.

Saying that, both are amazing value! Very well researched.

Especially if you can nip into a SD and try the Masuri on. Never heard of the "Evo" model, but looks identical to what I know as a "test".

I have the steel Masterclass. Highly recommend, no quality problems, good vision, lightweight.

I'd have a look at morrant, talent cricket, pro direct cricket and lorimers they are the online shops I always use for items I'm unable to purchase from a batmaker

indeed its is not comparable but shrey looks like a real bargain and its with a free neck guard. i am outside UK so nipping into SD is not an option.
Seems like Shrey is very well discounted.
How is the fit for Shrey helmet? My head is 57-58 cm so shall i go for standard size or smaller?
Shreys weight is very close to my current helmet.

Ah I see. The sizing on th Shrey is pretty standard. You also get a slightly thinner "Swoppa" band (sweat band) with it in case the fit is a little tight, which is a nice touch. So if you're in between sizes, go with the sight smaller one as you can always make it slightly "bigger". I'm a 57-58 and I went with the small size with the regular Swoppa as I like a tighter fit.

Considering the neck guard is around 18GBP, 100GBP all in for a titanium is super value. But then again, a Masuri "Test" at 30 GBP is even better. Depends on which styling you like. With regards to to neck guard, I have one, doesn't impede on manoeuvrability or comfort so worth the peace of mind should you ever get a vicious short ball, or an errant throw from the boundary.

Your Surridge looks fairly old, you might find it a little difficult to adjust to the new standard gap between peak and grille.

I could not see any mention about the Gray-Nicolls and Gunn & Moore helmets. Are those not as good as Shrey & Masuri? Any user review / feedback on the current GN Omega XRD or Test Opener helmets?

Think the main two brands are Masuri and shrey but there's no reason why the GM and GN helmet will offer the same protection as they all must conform to the BS set by the ECB

Have you decided yet mate?
I'm currently in possession of one of each and will do a thread comparing them if anyone is interested.

The GM lid is decent enough, I like mine.
It would be infinitely better with a titanium grille though.

The weight of the new lids is an issue for me, I know other people have different views on this.

Im holding out for an old albion, every man and his dog is after the old masuris on ebay whilst the new models are rediculously heavy and just dont fit my massive head.

SD bargain for Masuri helmet was so good that i could not pass just only for sake of test what best fit out of both. In double minds which size to order for Shrey since i have  57-58cm head.
No offence to GN or GM helmets indeed they would be meeting all standards and have top notch protection but to me looks are also as important as protection so GN looks like horse riding helmet whereas GN looks like a pumpkin.
WalkingWicket37@ It would be nice if you could do a comparison and do mention about how snug they fit  and how much space can be achieved removing inside padding.
A point of advice on wearing helmets and newer ones since older hlemets are more famous amongst some of us.
Since  6 years back the ball hit on my front upper lip in the nets, after the blow i never batted without helmet even facing laziest slowest bowlers.( luckily my teeth were intact ;)  ). Then again couple of years back a mate wearing an old helmet broke his nose facing a spin bowler somehow the ball penetrated in older masuri. Recently last week taking a quick single the ball just hit my helmets grill which could have penetrated injuring me. So here what i am trying to say is that please do not use older style helmets due to better visiblity and lightweight. One has to think about safety first of all and when all the world class players have adapted this new technology so why could not we and as far as the weight of the helmets are concerned the human body is so versatile that it will adapt to heavier helmet in a matter of time.
