I use cricket tennis balls (harder , heavier than regular tennis balls) with my bowling machine when practicing short balls . They have a similar effect to wetting a normal tennis ball bounce wise . I use Vicky , but I've also tried Costco ....g.m make a similar ball called the 'g.m 1st ball' and that's a goodun - must remember to get some more of those soon .
The tennis racquet drill mentioned also works really well though too .

So after a few weeks off batting in the 1st team, i made a point of taking our tall bowlers on the hardest deck on the square (that i was allowed on!) and got them to pepper me with ball after ball and surprise me with the full one so i wasnt sitting on the back foot. Took a couple in the ribs, arm and many other places before i started picking the lengths and lines well.

Today we had a half decent bowler that touched 70, i only say half decent as to a number 8 batsman that stands 6'4 tall he mist have bowled 2 at the stumps, the rest were bouncers!! I ducked (which ive never done before) left on length and even flicked off my hips, scaring short leg with how well i was timing it for him to move back into the slips. All in all i didnt try and over hit anything i didnt feel comfortable with and picked the lengths really easily, just shows what practice can actually do!  :D

Good news Woody keep it up.
Ive never met a cricketer than does not improve by practising in some form or another.

Cheers mate, im actually really please with the duck and 1 leave i picked really early raised my arms to leave it and it kept rising so i pretty much had to do a little jump to make sure my hands were nowhere near it. Im quite proud i watched the ball wiz past my nose instead of closing my eyes and swatting at it
