Having finally got my dissertation out the way, I've been able to use some black walnut I had lying around from my plane and a block of maple. Sadly the maple had a crack in it so I had to use it for something else.

I was due to be buying some clefts from Gary now, but my guitar amp suffered a disastrous failure and £113 bill left me having to delay that a few weeks.

Anyway here's the knocking in mallet I made from part of the figured maple block and some laminated slices of black walnut. Hope you guys like it.

Thanks, it's getting another coat of wax today. I thought about putting some kind of satin finish lacquer/sealer on it but I'm not really too sure what would be suitable. Anyone got any suggestions?

Very pretty, you might want a bit more curvature on the face before anyone actually uses it though.

Made this bat width gauge over the past 2 days. Flamed Maple and Ebony fit nicely together and it compliments the Maple and Black Walnut mallet I made last year. Hope you guys like.

Nice job fella. Whats the deal with the different shades of timber on the shave? Did you have to scarf a new bit on? Planes look tasy as well. I'm thinking of making my own concaving plane like Fletch has on the other thread now.

I had to attach a piece of ebony to the front of the spokeshave as the mouth was so open and worn it didn't function correctly.
