Hi lads brand new to the forum so this is my first post.
Recent ordered a SS MASTER 5000 from OLS. Bats come in a reasonable time and is exactly what I ordered BUT on ordering I asked for it to be oiled and knocked in. How ever I  am not satisfied with the knocking in. So obviously i should do it myself as per. But the problem is I have also asked for the bat to come with a scuff sheet. So the question is how do I go about oiling the bat without taking he sheet off? Can I just oil the back and let it soak through or am I going to have to bite the bullet and take sheet off and start again?

Oil the exposed areas, and just knock in with the scuff. Oil seals moisture in the bat, which the scuff sheet does for the face anyways! Personally I prefer rounding edges before scuffing up, but it's a bit of a ball ache to remove them, so just put tape over the scuff sheet at the edges.

hey there, welcome to the forum.

I usually remove the scuffs, oil and knock the bats and put a new scuff on. Spending a few more hours and dollars to knock and apply the scuff is well worth it in the long run. unless you are of the veterans on this forum who buy a bat every month

Just a heads up if you oil, you will probably have to leave for a few extra days before stuffing to ensure all the oil has dried off/soaked thoroughly, otherwise the scuff won't stick. Giving the face and edges a light sand before applying the scuff will help too!

I usually use a regular carpenter iron hammer on Indian bats.

You start off gently and then increase the BANG as you go.

Does the job quickly and efficiently.

And remember that under oiling the bat is safer than over oiling it. From my experience with bats from OLS they do oil and knock it in (although more knocking in is required). So make sure you don't over oil it.

Don't worry.. That won't kill your bat. @WalkingWicket37 did this test, http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=33585.0. He did all kinds of over oiling, and it didn't really affect the depth of which the oil went into the willow. As long as you didn't stand it upright In a bucket of oil, you are good. Please let us know how it pans out.

Welcome to the forum @Gardiner1886. There is a knocking thread titled "Ginger's knocking process". Read through the thread .. you will find a lot of interesting stuff and will possibly buy LV mallet as well :-)
