Got a message from a teammate today saying that his new bat (received last Wednesday) had broken, with the accompanying image. He will be contacting the retailer tomorrow to see about a replacement.



The bat was purched from a reputable online retailer and he had paid for a knocking in service. He then knocked it in additionally himself and I gave it a bit of mallet loving so it was definitely prepared.

I took a few additional pictures myself when I got back to the ground, which I thought I'd share. I'd be interested to hear peoples opinions on the breakage (and what they think caused it).

It's so subtle those markings that on a production line it's easy to miss I'm guessing.

There is a failure rate during warranty calculated into the price so he'll get a replacement.

Interesting the owner managed to prep it in 4 days. World record🤐. Regardless it is nothing to do with a fault like that one.

At least we know ghosts can be killed😚

storm damage seems to be the best guess.. i saw the same thing happen to another Ghost. that was also an online purchase, and the retailer was able to send over a new one.

Seen a few bats go like this recently and every single one has gone in the same place, just under the stickers. Either this 'storm damage' is easier to spot than makers let on and they can mask it with stickers or , which I actually believe to the case, the splice is weakening the already damaged areas. Just find it odd that I've seen 5 from different brands all go in the exact same place recently, when historically you'd rarely seen one split in two like that

That's a good point is everything now storm damage as we had a lesson on it a year ago so we like to feel clever or is big bat fashion leading to drier willow more prone to breaking

Seems to be a theme with Kookaburra's

Carberry had one go like that in the Ashes a few years back and others have had similar more recently.

So it isn't just a recent thing.

A lad at our club had an Onyx go in exactly the same place a few weeks back. Also a very new stick which had only been used a handful of times. Will try and find some pics later
