Bairstow and Cook - bats up close
« on: August 04, 2016, 10:27:15 PM »

I was lucky enough to play in a corporate event up at Headingley a few weeks back and even more lucky to be able to use the home team changing rooms to get changed in. Being the messy bunch they are, a few of the pros left some of their kit lying around and being a bat nerd I couldn't help taking a closer look at a couple of the beauts in Bairstows corner.

1st bat - F18 Stickers. Very light (felt 2.6-2.7ish), lovely grains on it with heartwood on the inside edge which seems to match his current match bat in the tests.

2nd bat - no stickers. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the handle but it was missing a grip and at the very top it said A.Cook with a bunch of numbers after it so I assume it was a gift from El Capitain. What stuck me was how ugly it was with knots on the face running through to the back. Shapes look similar but this one was a little heavier than the F18. Both had big bows in (well bigger than I'm used too).

I didn't tap any of them up (being a guest and all) which was a shame but they both picked up beautifully.

I also spotted an enormous Woodworm bat with a smashed toe. As theres probably only one person in the country still using Woodworm I assume it was Bresnans. I don't have any pictures of that but it looked more like a club than a bat with a rounded back (think Newbery Tour but bigger) with quite a high spine and looked very dry.

Enjoy

How many international players are using bats by B3? Shan Masood? He is done. Who else? Aaron Finch? I have his B3 sample and guess what, it has a bow!

Other international players? I have a Warner replica and it has a huge bow.

Most Pak player are using bats made by asian bat makers with _bows_.

I have recently seen Kudos and Kudos 2 bats and they are bowed too.

Stuart Kranztbuhler makes a lot of bats for pros and from the pics I have seen, they are bowed bats. B3 bats are not the be-all-end-all of the bat using/bat making world out there. And B3 fans needs to accept that.  ;)

Wow! In a nutshell why cbf people don't post much anymore. Say one thing which to me looks in jest, and someone with a massive chip on his shoulder loses the plot.

You have to think, why bother posting.

You've hit the nail on the head there mate.
My comment was indeed made in jest, but Mr Big Bow couldn't wait to give it the big one... :-[

I wouldn't say all, I bet Finch only gets his bats made by B3 when he's over in the UK playing but I could be wrong. I know that David Millar definitely doesnt use B3 as his bat maker but rather a SA one.

Give a B3 to a Pro and watch him bat. Then give him a CA or SS and watch him bat. Technically you won't find any difference. They will keep hitting the ball right in the middle ! Bow or no-bow and curved face or flat face, these are a matter of personal preference to any player. Absence of any of these characteristics doesn't really make or break brands.

Maybe I saw the jest in it, may be I over looked it completely. That post doesn't read like a chip but a massive boulder on my shoulder. Nevertheless, the tone and timber of the post was unwarranted. And, for that I apologize to you and to the forumites.

So you should!

I read the thread the other day about why people don't post so much on here anymore and the aggressive attitude of some forum members.  The second I read your post here, it hit the nail right on the head!

One forum member makes a harmless comment, you shoot him down with a very arrogant and aggressive tone to your post!!
