Taping you hands
« on: August 11, 2016, 09:04:44 PM »

Hi guys

Bit of a strange one here, but after some advice on whether I can tape my hands for a bit of protection while fielding.

I'm predominantly right handed, and have found that my right hand are a bit sore after playing games both days last week then training last night.
The sore area is level with my middle two knuckles, but on the palm of my hand (does that make sense?)

Is there a tape job I can do to help pad/protect this when fielding this Saturday, or do I simply need a painkiller and a dose of man up for this one?

On a side note, will I be allowed to tape my bowling hand, or is that asking for trouble with the umpires?

Cheers

I thought you could... But i would say man up. I get drilled with catches all week! Ive had one week where my whole palm was 1 big bruise! Then again i quite enjoy that pain.

Use fabric strapping and tape on between each of your fingers and make sure the tape runs onto your palm so your then able to tape across your pressure points to secure the bits of tape in between all fingers and just give you that extra bit of padding for your hands

Man up, or failing that, tell the batters to hit it softer at you

Man up was my initial thought, but if I can apply some kind of tape or strapping it would be a luxury rather than a necessity

As I tend to field at short extra cover or short mid wicket half the fun is how hard they come at me  ;)

If you're fancy being a proper badger (Like myself) then I can recommend the Gray Nicolls fielding practice gloves. They offer padding around the areas you're concerned about so are a life saver (not literally) if you do lots of fielding practice, taking skiers etc.

Only downside is that you'll get sledged by your buddies for looking like a snooker referee, but I quite like that!  :D

@GoodLeave I already have a pair of Aero fielding gloves that I never wear (maybe that would be the way to go in training...) :-[

Isn't buying kit and not actually using it a CBF trademark though?  :D

I thought it was buying all the kit, and wearing it all at the same time!

Tape/Strapping on you bowling hand probably not, unless it was fingers you don't use to bowl with. But no reason you can't field with taped up hands.
