I recently contacted John about getting a bat made to the same shape as Joe Root's and I sent him a number of pictures and videos and basically pestered him for a week or so. I decided on X1 grade and he found a cleft and I indicated around 2lb 8oz/9oz weight.
That was a few weeks ago and now I have the bat in my possession. It has 8 really straight grains that run through the toe and up the back of the bat. The finishing is fantastic and I love the stickers and grip. Its shape looks pretty spot-on (although I guess we are never going to get it quite as big as Root's) and it feels really nice. It weighs 2lb 9 1/2oz. It has 39mm edges at its highest point, about a 60mm spine. The toe is 22mm at the bottom and the shoulder is 20mm. It has just the slightest bit of concaving - very full profile really. It is a slightly shorter blade and longer, oval handle.
As a comparison, a while ago I had a 2 stripe B3 done with a similar request and it weighs 2lb 8oz and has 34mm edges, 18mm toe and 10mm shoulder, with a slightly higher spine but definitely more concaving than the Red Ink.
I would highly recommend the experience and the resulting bat should be great (already knocked-in too). Many thanks to John.
I will update once I have used it but here are the pics for now:
