Slazenger V5 (UK made) refurb
« on: August 28, 2016, 02:39:27 PM »

Hi guys

Just a quick thread showing the refurb job I've done on a UK made Slazenger V5 I bought from RoCo Da Pixie the other week.

Here are the pictures from the original sale thread:

First up I removed the stickers. As you can see the bat had a bit of an essex tan!

I started off sanding the bat back to white willow using my orbital sander

Following this I gave the bat a light oil all over and a had sand with 240 grit wet and dry (while the oil was still wet)
As you can see the outline of the stickers was still visable here.

And today I finished the bat off.
I hand sanded it with 120, 180, 240, 320, 400 and 600 grit paper.

And to finish the bat off I gave it a light coat of linseed oil and a sand with 600 grit wet and dry as soon as I had applied this.
I'm rather pleased with how the bat has turned out, and the finish is now rather good (if I do say so myself!)

This actually a great guide.  Just a question,  what do you mean by wet and dry? Is it a type of sand paper or you mean you just sand while the bat is still wet with oil?

Wet and dry is the type of sandpaper, it's not technically designed for wood but it comes in much finer grades. As the name suggests, it can be used wet or dry equally effectively, which is great for sanding the bat as soon as oil is applied.

I usually use 120, 180 and 240 on my orbital, but as I was low on sanding disks i only used 120 on this bat and did the rest of the sanding by hand.
