Good review. It's nice to see balanced reviews, not every bat can be the best bat you've ever owned.

Sure, H4L are very good at what the do, but they can't get it right 100% of the time. I hope they read this review and try to work on what may have gone wrong with this one, even though as you say, it's second hand and probably atleast 12 months old.

As for the bat itself, I'm surprised the pick up is heavy, there looks to be a fair bit of concaving so I would have expected it to pick up light. Is this a case of the new fashion that's about to sweep bats... High-Density willow?

Willow is a natural product and no bat maker can really tell how it will perform. H4l have been making superb bats and having owned 1 I'm very happy with it. My performance with it hasn't been good with it  but that's not the bats fault it's me being rubbish!!!

Don't you use 2.6 bats? If so nearly everything this size of a size 5 will pick up heavy to you.

As strange as this may sound it may not pick up so well because it's a light bat.
Having been lucky enough to go through a fresh delivery of H4Ls at Uzi Sports not that long ago, I found the heavier bats picked up better for their dead weight than the light ones.

I've noticed this I've found with lighter bats the bat maker is forced to put the weight towards the middle where you need and lose some from the shoulders where as with heavier bats you can keep more wood throughout the blade helping the balance and pick up

A light blade with a heavy handle picks up a treat.

I've picked up hundreds of bats, but when someone says "what's that 2.10 pick up like" my reply is usually "like balsa wood" they all pick up like balsa wood.

2.4?? Is that Short handle or smaller? I'm amazed you can even get anything made of willow for a SH at 2.4 haha

Your right  but i managed to get a GN  carbo S/H off the shelf at 2.4 It's a big bat for the weight and as we know the Carbon gives the bat a lighter pickup

I have always had bad luck with 2nd hand bats

I know there are plenty of people out there selling genuinely good bats 2nd hand  - but in my experience, if you have a good bat that goes like a bullet - you don't sell it. Simple!

around here you have to buy 6 bats a season, keep one for nets, keep using your trusty match bat even though you keep meaning to "play a new one in" and by the end of the season sell the 5 for a loss. Its just how things seem to go.
