I think what you are trying to achieve is going to be difficult at ameture level you may be more successfull at a club with a pro.

The club I'm thinking of going to is a lot more organised, the first team (which I won't get near) is very good so I'm hoping that means the good habits are passed down. It has a great junior set up too so I imagine they try to do the right things in all the teams to help the juniors prepare for higher level cricket.

I presume I know where your going (via midweek association), and good luck for future endeavours. A amateurs competitive career is not a long one and as your paying for the privelage you should have a shot to do and achieve what you want to.

I may get to play against you or even with you(i play for the Lms team out of the 3rds/4ths ground)


As for the team your leaving, it will be hard time for them, as I believe Pete has stepped down as skipper too.
Hopefully someone steps up and it continues for many years on as its one of my favourite places and clubs to play against, even if I'm rarely successful there.

And this brings me to your issues and concerns there, having played against them for a few years I do get what your saying, and I believe it may be down to the size of your ground.
The tiny nature gives you so much value for shots that you don't have to take risks, yet every time we play there, your sides batting seems to be getting more reckless. Odd exceptions iexcluded.

Yet you will know from both our 1st t20 game, and 2nds Saturday game, the teams "proper" batsmen top scored in both games.

That is quite interesting, thanks for that.

I would class myself as more of a proper batsman but sometimes you get stuck with a slow partner which makes you go a bit more aggressively. I think the size of the ground also contributes to the poor fielding. A larger ground certainly gives you opportunities to save runs. It is very much 1 or 4 at Calver. I do fear for the immediate future of the club as a few more have followed me in leaving. I really hope that isn't the case!

Couldn't really see the appropriate section to post this so settled on this.

I have been at the same club for 5 seasons and I am moving on for a change of scenery. I wondered what the correct etiquette would be for this?

I was thinking going old school and sending a letter to the chairman then posting a note on our Facebook group.

You pay subs for one year. It's not a contract you have to cancel. You don't have to say or do anything. It really depends on your relationship with the club and how you want to leave things. As others have mentioned,  put the feelers out and net with a few clubs and make a final decision next spring. No need to rush things,  say something if you want to when you are ready.

I was thinking about calling it a day, as I'm getting on a bit now and really can't be bothered with the hassle of it all.
I've got three under five year olds, and feel guilty enough about spending a day chasing a cricket ball around
But,
The missus wants me to carry on playing, the kids love watching, and a chat to jblowe and Pete Hosk have renewed my enthusiasm to play, and hopefully should see me playing at a new club next year.
Really looking forward to a new club and a new challenge.

Indeed mate - plus remember that the club has 12 weeks of coaching U-7 and U-9 each season so they can start to actually join in every Friday evening with the other kids too. Good way of getting the kids involved as there are usually 50+ kids! Plus the parents stay and often have a Friday evening drink or two from the bar and then feed the kids as there is a BBQ too. Makes perfect sense

I moved clubs a couple of seasons ago (I'll admit it was a last minute decision) and did it the correct way by informing the club via an email thanking them for all the help in my development before signing the paper work on my end to transfer my registration. It took a few days due to some small technical issues to transfer the registration. In those two years that I moved back to my first club I played against my old club 5 times, I got on with some and others I didn't its just the way it is in sport.

I moved clubs this year and it made me a lot more excited for the season again and I had such a fun season

For the 2015 season I moved from the club I founded, after both the club's first and second teams won the league.  I spent 2014 playing between both sides, just making up the numbers and not really getting a game in either. I went from winning division one to the the bottom side in division 10 in the 2015 season. The club I joined ran three sides, the first in division 1, the seconds in 5 and the thirds in 10. As I'm knocking on a bit, I made it clear to them that I wanted to play in the 3rd team. I really enjoyed it in the thirds, the cricket was a lot easier and the other players were very welcoming. I also had a good season with bat and ball. The biggest problem was with the first team, who constantly hassled me to play in the seconds. In August I finally gave in and turned out for the seconds. I didn't get a bowl and was down to bat at number 9, but I never faced a ball. On the same day the first team played my former club and it turn nasty, with my new club cheating my old club.  I returned to the thirds the following week, but it was very awkward, my team where ok with me but everyone else in the club made me feel unwelcome. At the end of the season I left.

Last year I played for another team in the lowest division, but didn't really enjoy it. Even though I took wickets I only got a limited chance to bowl.  The longer the season went on the less I wanted to be there.

I am hoping 2017 will be the year of the HOSK...

Moving clubs for next year is making me even more keen for winter nets than usual! Looking forward to a fresh start and some new challenges.

I am the same, I am focussing on losing weight and getting fitter specifically for the 1st net with my new club. Really exciting thinking about learning how to keep to a whole new set of bowlers.
