Moving clubs
« on: September 19, 2016, 12:01:37 PM »

Couldn't really see the appropriate section to post this so settled on this.

I have been at the same club for 5 seasons and I am moving on for a change of scenery. I wondered what the correct etiquette would be for this?

I was thinking going old school and sending a letter to the chairman then posting a note on our Facebook group.

Speak to face to face with someone (skipper, chairman, committee member) would be my advice, personally i would stay away from discussing these things via facebook, whats app etc

Yes send a letter to the chairman to read to others at the committee  meeting or AGM tell him your reasons so he knows there's no bad feeling always where possible leave on good terms following the appropriate channels you never know you want to rejoin at a later date

letter to chairman + conversation with your captain

avoid facebook etc - your mates will know you're considering leave anyway but better to be clear so no one can re-write the story after you have gone :-D

Fake your own death.

Or... If you can meet someone official, do it face to face be it captain or chairman. If not, letter/phone call etc are fine. Would avoid social media, that way if anyone feels aggrieved, they can't respond with anything that could sour the relationship.

To be honest I would do nothing now and keep your options open.
Try a couple of clubs over the winter and see how they go and see what you want to do in April.
At that point you can speak to the Chairman and suggest you won't be playing.

We have our end of season presentation in November so I was going to leave it until a week or two after that anyway.

I'm not a fan of social media, tone of voice can be misunderstood and reacted to in an unhelpful way.

Thanks for your advice. I'd like to move on in a decent way and it is possible one day I would return to the club. The main reason I like cricket is the decency most people have which is fast disappearing in many others aspects of life.

I'm still umming and ahhing about moving myself. I was adamant (or should that be adament?) I was going, but when I look back over the last 11 years it's only one bellend has ruined this last year for me.

Back story time - with two games left I was dropped from the 2nd XI to the third, despite being the better of the two spinners who had played (statistically, experience of that level and to anyone who was asked, including the other guy!) I'd torn my thigh taking a catch the week before anyway,  so declared myself unavailable for the rest of the season. A couple of cuginas then started spouting off that I'd had a tantrum and needed to grow up (without knowing the facts...) Fast forward to now, I've heard through other players there is apparently bad feeling about the way I behaved. I'd love to know who this came from, and why nobody tried contacting me (the "chairman of selectors" went out of his way to avoid speaking to me, in fact!)

I'll play indoor cricket as normal (I have a game tonight) but I'm more than likely to have half an eye on other clubs over the winter.

Well I found out who started the rumour I'd left, and other than a couple of piss taking comments about it everything was fine.
Most interesting part will be nets after Christmas when I see the s**t stirer for the first time...

Definitely agree, this is what I'll be doing over the winter. You never know, you might go to nets with another club and realise you can't stand them and want to go back!

Sounds like a few of us in the same boat. I'm looking to go to nets with a new team this winter and seeing how I get on. I've had enough of the travelling to away games in the league we play in at the moment. End up spending 60-90 mins each way up and down the A1 to games and with the boy on the way I don't want to be getting home at 8:30-9 from some games, so it's either refuse to play away from home (not sure how well that will go down) or look at playing for the club in the town I live in.

On the plus side, they have just been promoted back to the Orem of the Saracens Herts league so the facilities are pretty good!

Travelling  20 miles to an home match and 30 miles plus to away games That's why I left the club where I enjoyed playing at the end of last season annual subs paid and  after 5 matches with the new club  I was back at my old club who i had left on good terms with the knowledge i could return

I don't think i would be able to move to a different (League) club.

I've been at the club longer than the furniture!!

But, if you hate cricket because of the club, i would then look to leave.
