Mark Wood to miss Bangladesh tour
« on: September 29, 2016, 08:06:04 AM »

From the BBC sports news page:

Quote
England bowlers James Anderson and Mark Wood have been ruled out of the upcoming tour of Bangladesh following a recurrence of their recent injuries.

Swing bowler Anderson has been withdrawn from the Test squad due to an ongoing stress fracture to his right shoulder.

The 34-year-old, who has 463 Test wickets, has not played since the fourth Test loss to Pakistan in August.

Durham seamer Wood has had a recurrence of left ankle problems. He will miss the three one-day internationals, starting on 7 October, and the two Tests later in the month.

Nottinghamshire’s Jake Ball is added to the Test squad, while Middlesex’s Steven Finn is added to the ODI squad. The selectors will consider a further replacement for the Test squad at a later date.

Call me cynical, but how many more "injuries" can we expect ahead of the tour?

Jimmy could get away with playing on an injury, Wood not so much.

I find it unlikely these are phantom injuries though

Ecb thoughts.

We need to drop hales and replace Morgan in the odi's. "Oh you don't want to travel, time to hang you out to dry"

"Jimmy you don't want to travel? Don't worry your one of the boys, we'all tell the press your injured........"

wood has only just come back from injury

basically our two best reverse swing bowlers are out of the tour and its got to be unlikely they will go to India

Wood did suffer a serious ankle injury which could have finish him helped by the way he bowls wouldn't risk him touring he has the potential to be as good as jimmy

yes if you heard Holding the first time he bowled in a test he said he had real pace and potential but would be injury prone...it's his action, im no bowler(just about allowed to trundle in the CBF nets) but you can see the strain on the body naturally due to his action.....

Since the World Cup Hales has averaged 44 and Morgan 45. Do you really think the ECB want to drop them? If they wanted rid of Morgan, the end of the SA tour was the perfect opportunity.

I was just playing devil's advocate with my comment really, but it will be interesting to see if anyone else does "pick up an injury" before the plane takes off.

morgan is already confirmed as skipper for India by the ECB

he can still change a game on his own. Inconsistent yes but that's our new style

god helps us we don't want to go back to 3 an over and trying to hit 25 an over in the last ten!

Look at Tait, ruined himself by the time he hit 24!

indeed he did.....

when it lasted thou it was rapid!

actually saw Tait bowl at Lords MCC v ROW 3 years ago, He clearly lost some pace and Gilchrist pulled and cut him into oblivion that day.

but Tait still looked quick to me....it would of hit most of eyes between the eyes before you could move  :)

Yes any bowler who slams there front leg into the pitch on delivery creates stress  upto 6 times  there body weight through the knee into the ankle It finished me as a bowler

Test cricket, hales is about to(or has been) dropped(remember the Bangladesh tours is red ball as well as white ball)

Odi's, morgans fifties are few and far between and in a line up of Roy, hales, root, Morgan, stokes buttler. Morgan is the one the ecb will eventually want to make way for the upcoming talent of duckett, billings etc etc.
