Dear All,

Hope you had a good summer of cricket.

Our opposition has pulled out of a game we had scheduled on Sunday 2nd October. We are now looking for an alternative team with a good home ground. Unfortunately our last home game was played 2 weeks ago and the ground is now being used for other sports so we need opposition with home grounds and preferably start the game at around midday.

We are friendly bunch of social guys. Most of our fixtures are more than 30+ years old.

Please do get in touch if you have a ground for this Sunday to discuss further.

Kind regards,
ZK

  • Clear your mind, stay still and watch the ball

The reason cricket isn't played in Oct is to give squares time to recover before the winter.
This time of year while there is grass growth is the best time to top dress, seed and fertilise the square.
If you are still playing you will damage the playing surface for next year.

To play on into Oct We used to cut a strip on the end of the square
groundsman  told me that as long as  top dressing etc was done before the end of Oct it would be okay as things catch up grass seed will grow as long as the temperature is above 6 C.

Spot on. In Yorkshire there is a team called Arthrington who play until the end of October, and their track was one of the best around. My old man told me anything above 7 C for grass but just as  important it's having warmth still in the ground. In that respect October and early November are more suitable for seeding than April. Seem to remember Halloween a couple of years ago was 21c!
