I really need to go down the road of just acquiring stuff illegally, my excuse being I spend hundreds going to test matches/Surrey games over the summer. My Champions Trophy ballot came through the other day at a total of £265 across four games. Welp.

I got rid of sky sports for the winter. I only really watch cricket and rugby so need BT for Aviva prem. I just watch the highlights on ITV for the tests and if I really want to watch SKY I can log on to my dad's sky go.

I watched the 1st test. Swann, Ponting and Vaughan in the studio. Not really sure why they need 3 people for around 2 hours of punditry. I find Michael Vaughan interesting 50% of the time then really annoying 50% of the time. He is either trying to say something controversial (a la Shane Warne)to get his name mentioned more while looking very smug or so set on his opinion that he doesn't offer other possible theories.

Ponting is interesting but I get the impression he takes it far more seriously than the other two, which I like. Swann tries to get a joke in with his usual self-depricating style but occasionally says something interesting. I'd much prefer two pundits with the three of them rotating.

Greg James can present but not really sure what he brings to the table.

I also would like a cricket journalist in there. I think each punditry panel should mix journalists with former players. You get a better balance and a journalist is far more likely to play devil's advocate to make a discussion interesting, not just three players from the same era agreeing on something.

Yeah, Punter is the best one by far. Vaughan and Swann lean too far towards the awful Channel 9 moronic banter. The cricket journalist is a good shout, Mike Selvey has a bit of free time on his hands now that the Grauniad have dispensed with his services.

God I hope Swann and Vaughan aren't there for the Australia-Pakistan series or I'll be tearing out what little hair I have left.

whenever I hear Vaughan or Swann on the radio or TV I can't help think the pair of them are SMUG

dunno...it's probably me....

the pair of them were excellent cricketers just.......well watching Trotty on the verdict I don't get the same feeling. Trott comes across more devoid of ego.

Clearly different character

And despite hating him thru his career(only cos he was Australian and scored loads of runs against us) Ricky Ponting is very good.

His masterclass of batting on Sky breaks it down to club players and that's a gift to explain

I hate the Sky Sports masterclasses because they made it impossible for me to dislike guys like Ponting. I started playing again after a decade away and I ended up trying to incorporate the stuff on his backlift and initial foot movement in particular into my own game, albeit with decidedly less spectacular results...

There are some guys who you just enjoy listening to when they talk about cricket because they realise it's not about them and focus on their job, Ponting does that and like you said, so does Trott. Vaughan, Swann, Warne etc. are insufferable pricks.

I actually used to be quite good at playing spin (for a tailender anyway!) but since coming back I've discovered, to my horror, that I've forgotten how to sweep.
