Bats, Duffle and Pads
« on: October 30, 2016, 08:24:48 PM »

I couldn't resist John's sale last month so purchased all the below, bar the repaired Redink X3 I bought 2 seasons ago enjoy the reviews and my dodgy photos...I'll try to put up some better ones next week.

Duffle: Huge duffle, slightly bigger than my CK22 and squarer at the bottom so stays more upright. Also has better pockets for storage, with the bats housed in one large side pocket and smaller on pockets on the other side to house clothing etc. The main compartment comfortably fits all my kit in including pads, really impressed with this duffle.

Sirius Pads
These feel and look very high quality pads, I previously had Kook Kahuna Players pads and these feel just as snug and light, the straps are also short enough not to need folding over! :).
I wasn't 100% sure on the red and silver pin stripe, but in the flesh it looks very smart, one of my best purchases!

Repaired Custom X3 (now with X1 sticker) on the left and Custom X* on the right:

X3 - I asked John for a mid-high middle 2'9 full profile, spine to the toe  X3 loosely based on the GN F18 (for 2015 season), the pick up is unreal it feels more of a 2'7, edge 32mm, spine 48mm. I used it for half a season but split the toe along the heartwood driving a low one, the split was very fine and thought about repairing it myself but wasn't sure how to repair such a hairline crack, so it sat in my spare room for 12 months. I sent it back to John when I ordered my X*, he wasn't sure it could be opened up for repair, but it has and it looks great. I haven't netted with it but tapped it with a mallet it sounds solid. and pings lovely out of the middle

X* - This will be my match bat next season again mid-high middle full profie, but went for 2'10 this time as the X3 picked upped so well. I didn't ask for an exact replica, but something similar along the lines of the GN predator 3. The mallet pings off the bat and appears to have a longer middle than the X3. Edge 38mm, spine 50mm.

As always Johns bats look top draw, I'm a huge fan of the white stickers and grips, can't wait to use them in the nets. I'll be purchasing another in the near future no doubt and got my eye on the new Redink gloves...once John decides on the design.

I haven't worn them in anger yet, but the quality seems very high and the straps aren't too long and a steal at Johns sale price.

I'm really pleased with it, the mallet pings of it . Can't wait to give it an airing in the nets.

The X* I had was a lovely bat, was just too light for me in the end.

Sounds like a perfect excuse to order one in your weight range!

A bit of an update, I've batted with the X* in 5 innings this season and scored over 300 runs. It's the best bat I've ever owned, it's a genuine gun. It makes that lovely gun crack sound when nailing the ball to the boundary and has a fantastic  pick up . I'll be placing another order with John for exactly the same over the winter.  Also loving the pads, very light and comfortable with good protection and sensible length straps that don't need folding over. To say I'm very pleased is an understatement!

Great to hear it's going well for you and you are having a good season. Always good to hear when a customer is pleased, especially with the whole range
