I thought Smith's post-match interview was very honest and one could see how much the loss hurt. What was also clear is that they don't have a solution to their current woes.

This South Africa team wasn't rated highly by many before the, but they have performed outstandingly, with most team members making a contribution at some point. We not world beaters, but I'll settle for Aussie beaters at this stage.

But seriously, there rest side is poor, but there odi side is stole rated. There 2 nil down, just add some x factor in the middle overs and get finch and maxwell at five and six.

Smith was himself not at his best. The dismissals were well planned. Mental strength was needed.

Clearly what the Aussies need is a two division first class game with 18 teams. Although for the first couple of seasons the first division will be made up of kolpak signings and overs seas players while the home grown talent improves...

De Lange needs to stay fit and I think Morris still seen as a limited overs players for now. I saw glimpses of Viljoen in the domestic one day stuff and he was always quick in those games. How did he do in his county stint?

Really hard to comment on domestic performances of the South African players because the domestic four day competition gets so little television coverage in South Africa. Maharaj was tidy enough but I personally have never seen him bowl in our domestic four day competition. We are only exposed to the domestic players during the white ball competitions.

The team spirit seems good in the SA team now, but it is much easier to have that when the team is doing well. A test of team spirit comes during times like the Australian team is experiencing.

Right now I am just enjoying the Protea's doing well all the way in DC (aka 'The Swamp)!

I very much doubt the Aussies will change as much as expecting.

Bit tricky to provide very informed content on his county stint because division two is patchy in standard. His figures were very good and the couple of times I saw him he was properly rapid. May need to learn some nous but better than his debut suggested.

I thought Morris missed out on this series because he needed knee surgery? De Lange was rapid in the South African T20 match over the weekend. And Viljoen was pretty disappointing on his Test debut. Rapid yes but seemed only capable of whacking in it half way down
