Essex sign M Amir for 2nd half of 2017
« on: November 11, 2016, 03:03:22 PM »

An interesting signing for Essex.

They had W Riaz in 2016 but he didn't really set the world alight.

And given the history with D Kaneria / M Westfield, was surprised they choose to sign M Amir. Thought they may have taken a safety first approach by staying clear of someone with his conviction past.

Playing wise, he will no doubt be an asset?

well they have had Jessie ryder for a few years so don't mind taking on the problem children!

it's a good move for Amir, depending on your viewpoint of what his punishment should of been

he has now served the ban imposed and is free to play anywhere

more of the Pakistani players should play over here, they used to back in the 80's

salim malik was at Essex for years

definitely a good move from M Amir
I don't think many of the Pak players get offered deals tbh. Perhaps a lot of them aren't good enough?

Good signing for Essex, following Masters & Napier's retirement we need a decent fast bowler. As otherwise we're looking at Porter, Dixon, Quinn, Walter & Beard, which is somewhat lacking some experience / quality for Div 1, although not short of potential at all!

Also from a commercial perspective, should attract a few more of the Pakistani cricket demographic to games at Chelmsford. Which given Essex / East London's large Asian community, may help tap into the abundance of ludicrously talented young Asian players in the area.

Early days for both atm? Counties more likely to be tempted by more seasonal performers?
