Hmm....Profile of many choices!
« on: November 24, 2016, 05:36:47 PM »

Ok chaps - lots of topics about bats sizes, new bat laws, edge sizes, spine heights, etc. So let's put everyone in the same scenario.

So if cleft size and density was no object and you had money to burn, then what would you guys have made?

Lets set some choices up here!

1. Warner Kaboom (huge 52mm+ edges place mega-high spine)
2. 50+ (50mm+ edges and normal spine in comparison)
3. XP80 (smaller edges and mega 80mm spine)
4. XP70 (similar to XP80 but slightly smaller spine)
5. law-abiding profile (profile that falls within proposed laws even though unlikely to affect us village players for a while yet)
6. Custom profile (another option - please state)
7. Low density clefts are over-rated and it is the batsman that's important!

Over to you guys.......

30/35 mm edge 55/60 mm spine full profile slight bow weighing around 2.12

Not fussed by massive bats more coverage and larger middle more important!

6. Another option. About 25 years ago, I saved up all I had to buy a Newbery Series One. Cost maybe 125 quid, something like that. Fairly traditional profile, but it was the first bat I'd had that was subtly bowed. It was top drawer willow, had decent edges and a booming middle. To this day I think that it was the most perfect bat I've owned. After a season of use, my younger brother stole it from me and it never returned. I doubt you can get them now, maybe I'll try and make one for myself this winter.

After seeing Simons huuuuge h4l today, I'd have that !
The pick up is unreal considering it is a good couple of ounces heavier than what my puny arms could normally manage.
I'd possibly drop the toe and edges down a bit, but it shows how huge a bat you can get with the finest willow and a bat maker at the top of his game

Full profiled Amplus with a proper old style M&H oval handle, spine flowing from base of the handle and 20mm-ish shoulders or a proper modernised version of the mid 90s Slazenger V500.

One of the first, if not the first custom Pete. Matt would be able to confirm, was made up for a few weeks waiting for the stickers being produced.

I didn't specifically discuss the profile with Jake when we sorted it, Matt just made me this up
