Can one really overoil a bat?
« on: November 24, 2016, 07:34:53 PM »

I remember seeing one of Julian Millichapms Youtuve videos about bat care and he said that it is nearly impossible to overoil. Is that true? I have friends who never oil/knock and some friends who oil their bats every year. I have no doubt that the oiled bats last longer and I don't think it increases weight by much but just wanted to get an opinion of people here.

I'm sure somebody on here did an experiment and found out it wasn't possible.

My grandad, who bought my first bat, a gunn and more, left in linseed oil overnight. It became really tacky for about six months. I cant say if it was better bat before or after this event but it lasted me until i outgrew it. Still have it.

@WalkingWicket37 did a test on a bat. Over waxing wasnpossoobel I believe, but the oil never penetrated to far.

I did indeed do an experiment looking into this.

Over oiling will clog and  soften the bat fibres  and deaden the bat

Cheers mate! Great information and loved your experiment!
Is there anything that you guys haven't done/don't know about bats? Lol.....!
I think people on this forum treat bats as pieces of art rather than just objects for sending people on leather hunts!
Love you guys! Great info!
