What boots do spinners out there like to use?
« on: December 08, 2016, 10:17:41 AM »

Out of curiosity what type of boots are popular with spin bowlers out there? I've tried the Adidas SL22 and the Adipower Vectors in recent seasons but I've realised its not so clean cut what boots are ideal for spinners as it is for Fast Bowlers or batsmen. I'm just interested to see if there is a common type of boots that most spinners are wearing

Red patent leather, calf-height with a kitten heel. Oh, and a bit of suede detailing on the sides.

Most specialist spinners will use low cut bowling shoes ( ones on the light side ) , or all rounder type  full spikes , or batting type half spikes . Personally , i bowl left arm orthodox but am an opening bat too ...ive never had a problem using batting half spikes bowling spin . One thing - if you have a big back foot pivot you might want extra protection on the toe of the back foot to minimize wear . Having said that , I've just started using sl22 boosts ... i know I'll go through them quicker than my asics but i don't care , that light weight feeling is so good I'll just keep buying them when they need replacing .

I think calling myself a spinner is a bit generous but I bowled plenty of overs last year in SL22s and they were fine.

I use Addidas Adipower Vectors, I don't really have any problems with them.

I really like them as well they offer a bit more stability than the SL22's in my opinion, the internal 'powerband' also makes a big difference.

I field/ bowl (SLA) in full spike Asics 452. And bat in half spike SL22s. There is no right answer just what you are comfortable in.

Blimey - I hadn't though about it really, I just bowl in what I'm wearing for the game, rubbers if it's dry and spikes if it's wet.

Probably explains why I'm sh*t.

I like a nice pair of brogues normally :)

In all seriousness I just normally go with a batting/all rounder type shoe but I've never really thought much about it.

Comfort and practical wise I've always just worn regular spikes as in your bowling action you're not far off walkin which has some fairly minimal demands on a shoe.

Only issue I really look at is how well made the toe area looks, most spikes I have had split where the upper meets the sole on the inside of the left shoe, I guess due to the pivot required by an offie.

I had a few Asics pairs that split after a season or two, and an Adidas pair that went quite quickly. I've currently got a pair of NB at the moment that are still going strong after a good few hundred overs plus training.
