Best Protection and airflow - any suggestions?
« on: December 25, 2016, 03:30:29 PM »

I have been a very big fan of Forma helmets since I have seen numerous Indian players being hit on their heads by some of the scariest bowlers  around (e.g. Sachin by Shoaib Akthar, Brett Lee and younger James Anderson), Sehwag and Laxan by Brett Lee & Saurav Ganguly by Dale Steyn. All of them came out unhurt without any major trouble. Rahul Dravid after breaking his jaw against a Bangladeshi quick also switched to Forma. It makes sense since Forma (owned by Pro-Tech) is a major road safety helmets (for motorbikes) manufacturing company in India & the roumor is that original Forma cricket helmet (the looks of it) was designed by the great Sachin Tendulkar and Kiran More (former Indian national wicket keeper). Mr. More still owns stakes in the company. No wonder many Indian international players use this brand.

Anyway, the point is asking is it is quite safe to he it but on the other hand, their ventilation is horrible! There are three holes on the top of the helmet and they don't help you cool down at all. Someone like me who sweat excessively higher than others, this is a massive discomfort! During a longer innings, I literally have to take it off every time I reach the non-striker's end!

For me I can't look past Ayrtek. I sweat loads too and these have always been comfortable, offer decent circulation and more importantly soak up the sweat better.

All those guys you mentioned got hit on the "safe" part of the head (I remember Sachin ducking into a few shoaib bouncers but thankfully none of the hits were that critical)...what the modern day pros are doing is instead of ducking or trying to get out of the way (which would limit the force of the impact) they are aggressively taking on the short balls...so now they are actually increasing the force with which they get hit (think Stuart broad, Gary Kirsten vs shoaib etc) AND exposing the most vulnerable part of the helmet (grill area, side of the neck) to the impact..

That's why you can't just go for an old school helmet. Need the the stronger grill configuration along with the extra neck protection. Basically narrows it down to shrey vs masuri

Matsuri Vision series, Masuri old model with adjustable grill (titanium), and Ayrtek will provide all the ventilation sand protection you need.
