Me being an environmental engineer, have to work closely with Canadian paper industry and being a cricket tragic, I was looking for who grows willow in Canada for my knowledge. I came up with this link on google which I thought was a funny (Not saying that all the Canadian willow is grown using sewage at all)! I though this was interesting and a sound way to grow willow in northern hemisphere!

By the way, if anyone really knows any willow supplier in Canada, please let me know. I would like to visit them just to see willow plantations/wild willow fields!

Lol I am not sure what is happening in Alberta but we have sewage treatment plants on the east coast.

As for willow I have only ever found a few trees that looked like English willow out in the wild. With the amount of wind we have here as well as storms I would say none of them would produce a good bat. Having said all that I think there might be plantations further west especially thinking of BC area very similar climate to English conditions and not as many storms.

LOL! I have two paper customers in New Brunswick and one more near the border of NB and Quebec. If there are any plantations in that area, I can easily visit them. I have one paper customer north of Edmonton too, so I have AB covered as well!

I read someone mentioning Canadian Willow on the forum and was wondering if it is really a thing?

If we can get few clefts, it would be interesting to buy them and put them in use. I will be more than willing to cover the costs, we can get bats made and see what the fuss really is about.

At least, once we retire we won't have regrets of not trying!!

The willow used for biomass is more of a shrub than a tree. Its used because its short rotation, there are a few farmers I know around me growing it
