New 2016 V12 Ultimate LE
« on: January 11, 2017, 05:38:22 AM »

Ive always been a Slazenger fan, as my first bat was a size 6 V100. My next bat was a Master Blaster harrow. When I saw that Slaz were releasing the V12 Ultimate this year, it was guaranteed I'd buy one. I contacted Talent Cricket and got the LE model after they sent through photos of all the V12 bats they had.

To be honest, I was a little disappointed when it first arrived. The face looks great but there are blemishes on the back, including a knot. That's probably more to do with my lofty expectations of what an LE bat should be. Anyway, I usually use a 2.8 bat and knew this would be heavy for me. Was told before buying the bat is 2.9 and it was approx. 2.9-2.10. It certainly didn't pick up light and I wouldn't have expected it to with the profile it has. It also has a fairly skinny, 12 piece oval handle. No toe guard which suited me fine.

Edges around about 40mm and spine 60mm. I had the handle double bound and have 3 grips on with some counterbalance weighting near the top so the bat now weighs in at 2.13 but picks up nicely, even for me. After oiling and knocking, the face is starting to soften up. I would say it tapped up firm when it arrived. It's quickly becoming my favourite, along with my new Kippax.

@ Nmcgee  I too purchased mine through Talent Cricket. I was originally looking @getting the 5 Star bat however I didn't want a bat with any heartwood so I looked at the two cheaper 3 Star bats they had on offer and ended up picking this one up.  To be honest although these 3 Star bats are much cheaper (Grade 3 willow) if the ping off the mallet + ball are going to be an indication on how it's going to perform then I'm super impressed.

I would have purchased the LE model but @ around 150 pounds more I found it hard to justify the extra $$$, particularly since in the last 6 months of getting back into cricket after many years out of the game I have accumulated a number of old V12's + purchased a new BOLA Prof machine w/feeder and to top it off put in a concrete/astro turf pitch with a 21 metre fully enclosed net in my back yard.........

Some nice looking bats there guys, is there much difference between the new V12s and the vintage versions in terms of size/shape?

Yeah, good call. I should have guessed that one. I thought it could have been northern NSW.

First observations are: flatter face (as are most modern bats today), the hump is slightly taller but the length of the hump is notably longer.  Balance feels similar - heavier at the toe like all the older V12's I own.  I'm away on holiday for a week but when I get back I'll post some comparison pics of the old and new bats side by side.

The grass is dead here not having had decent rainfall for 6 months. I layed down 235sq/m of turf around my pitch and it's really doing it tough.
