AB de Villlers...
« on: January 15, 2017, 12:17:14 AM »

Looks like the sensation that is AB won't be asked to return to the Test side. Absolutely ludicrous that they are obsessed with quotas that their chief selector basically guaranteed walking wicket Bavuma a place for the NZ series yet AB is deemed surplus...

I reckon he'll just squeeze past a kolpak salary with his IPL and other t20 deals  :)

And South Africa get annoyed when all there best white players dissapeared for deals elsewhere.

(Look at the kolpakshire xi posted, it didn't look anywhere new rmaking any kind of quota)

It's a massive shame as a strong South Africa is good for international cricket and competition, but if they continue down this route there gonna end up a laughing stock with a few international level players and 8 mediocre ones merely picked for the colour of there skin.

International cricket should always have there best xi based on ability! No quota, no politics, no "boys clubs".
At the end of the day us as a paying public want to see quality and that's what we should get.

Does AB want to play Test cricket?

From what I've read on cricinfo there seems to be a suggestion he may not want to. I think it makes their quota decision easier if he doesn't as Bavuma continues

It could be convenient and easier  to blame the quotation system rather than take some stick for not wanting to play test cricket? Seems to me his heart's not in it...

de Villiers has made himself unavailable for the upcoming Test series in New Zealand but has confirmed he hasn't retired. Gearing towards the 2019 World Cup

Pretty obvious that he might play the Eng series and then retire from tests to focus on ODI's and T20.

The way I read the article it was more AB's decision in wanting to be ready for the world cup in 2019. But the truer storey is likely to be  more about AB wanting to play more T20 and cash in. The ICC seriously needs to address this as cricket at the moment is eating itself.

read the cricinfo article...yes seems he is a bit mixed up or he does not want to be seen turning his back on SA cricket. His salary from SA, would be dwarfed by IPL earnings, reading between the lines it seems he does not want to risk getting injured so he can play WC and IPL cricket. That's how I read it.

The quota system may or may not play a role it's hard to tell. Could they really leave him out if he was available for the NZ series?

I think sometimes you need to be a bit more honest. It's a poor state of affairs with any quota system but that may not be a real he wants to limit his time playing for SA in all formats.

it's a professional sport these days, players will earn as much as they can(look at chris gayle for example), there's nothing wrong with that and SA don't have the money to pay massive wages

what price playing for your Country is a good question.

Its a shame that the scheduling is so taxing. As its robbing us early of some great players..?
