B3 crown or Laver & Wood signature bat
« on: January 25, 2017, 12:56:18 PM »

Hello first timer here,

Is there a difference between the B3 crown or Laver & Wood signature bat in terms of willow because the price difference is huge between them? Leaning towards B3

Crown - 550 US DOLLARS
LAVER- 990 US DOLLARS

Of course there is a difference. One is completely hand made and one isn't. one is manufactured and one is podshaved.

Laver bats are impeccable in their finish and you will struggle to find a similar bat finish anywhere.

B3 is a totally new philosophy about you being able to design your bat using a test player bat designer to guide you.

Wood supplier is the same. Crown is low density. Signatures are aesthetically outstanding according to Lavers page and some of the posts.

Press is similar although I think lavers take longer to get going. Both go at that quality Willow.

One is  440 US cheaper. I assume this is with the 25% off voucher?

You could buy a almost identical profile and weight training B3 bat in grade 2, both knocked by B3, B3 pads,  couple of pairs of B3 gloves etc with that change. Ask to see the cleft pics beforehand and have bespoke season with streaky. Then when the bat needs replacing you just order the same bat.

It's head vs heart mate.

You can get just the bat for the same price as the B3.

Perfectly summed up my very own ambiguity an year ago.  :D Went with two B3's at the end but both the crown and signature are still a distant dream for now. :(

Both of them are fantastic bats. However i tend to favor B3. Handle of B3 bats are of decent size. If you have played with SS or SG bats with Chevron grip you will realize how thin they are. I like to have just one grip on the bat, so thicker handle is a must for me. Laver & Wood bat handles are top quality too but the handle is a little too thin for my liking ... my 2 cents  :D

Both will offer exceptional customization (including handle specs). In my view the signature price point is plain silly- Reserves are just as good (still pricey)..you could buy a reserve as well as a crown for just a bit more than the cost of one signature

It is GBP 500/-, unless there has been a revision. So somewhere around US$ 630/-?

I was in the same shoes as the OP.  B3 crown vs Laver Signature.  Both are fantastic brands but ended up getting the Signature for the following reasons.

1) Laver's handles are a step above the rest IMO.  I opted for the Carbo cane handle.  Coupled with the fantastic balance of Laver bats, you just can't not go wrong.
2) Laver's finish are a step above the rest IMO.
3) I am a Kiwi!

I waited almost two months before James Laver found the right cleft - Low Density with the looks to match.

It's almost like asking which do you prefer between a Blonde and a Brunette?

Yeah but you have to take 20 percent vat off for non uk customers. So around 525 usd, excluding shipping.

Sure this won't come into it but.... do you think there may be a difference in the resale value if in the future you. May want to move it on?
