Gutter /silicone headband for use with helmet ?
« on: January 28, 2017, 03:49:45 PM »

No matter what helmet , what padding system etc , i always get sweat drip issues batting - big time . Wouldn't be the worst thing , if only i didnt wear glasses . I recently bought new nike sport glasses with better airflow etc , which helps a bit , but the problem of sweat beading onto my glasses , or them fogging still persists . ( batted for 315 balls today , had to take my helmet off /waste time / make umpires cranky etc at least 10 times ) .
Anyway , im desperate , willing to try anything , however , i won't go back to toweling headbands or bandannas - too hot , too bulky/uncomfortable under a lid . So , i bought a couple 'gutter style' silicone headbands ( one a brand name , one a cheap knockoff) to experiment with using under my helmet . They are meant to channel sweat away from the front of the forehead and drain off towards near the ears to avoid dripping down the face / on glasses .
Has anyone else tried these gizmos , or found a better alternative / solution ?

Do you not get on with contact lenses? Seems like an obvious solution so you must not be keen.

I could never bat in my specs, as I'd have the same issues as yourself.

unfortunately I can't think of any immediate solutions other than try other sweatbands. Or change your rituals, take your lid off between overs/when off strike?

Agree with @GoodLeave it's contacts all the way for me.

I really, really struggled to get them in the first time and get used to them but kept forcing myself and couldn't be without them now.

I wish contacts were an option.... my eyes are tooo sensitive and swell up like golf balls ( wore them for a few months years ago until optometrists and doctor insisted i stopped wearing them ).
I think i will try taking my helmet off when at non strikers end etc , see how that goes.....but I'm pretty sure i will end up holding up the game when back on strike and putting my lid back on -  its surprisingly difficult to put on a helmet over glasses /clip the chin strap buckle back on etc while wearing gloves ( or taking off /putting back on gloves , which can be even more time consuming ) .
Aaarrrggghhhh , the curse of the bespectacled batsman !  ;)

Only a small thing but have you tried anti fog wipes for your glasses? May help a little.

These look interesting. ...i will buy one of the slimline / one inch ones and try it too . Its neoprene--ish type material is different to the .5 inch silicone on the Gutr headband I've just bought. The other difference is that this Halo has a material seal across the forehead to channel away sweat , whereas the Gutr has a gutter/channel for the same purpose.  Same idea , different approach and materials . I will be keen to try all these options and see which work best and which are most comfortable under a lid .

Yeah , i have an anti fog coating on my glasses and carry anti fog wipes (aswell as microfibre cloth ) in my pockets when batting . Helps a wee bit, but is close to negligible.

Maybe its time to get use to a sweatband, you can get thin ones!

The 2x silicone headbands and the halo headband   , which i have bought /will buy , are 'sweatbands' of a sort , and are extremely thin - just more modern and hopefully will not allow sweat to drip down front of head ( Traditional,  toweling style headbands /sweatbands are a bit thick under a helmet and when squashed against a lid just ooze the sweat down your face and are then rendered worse than useless . Even thin toweling sweatbands do this to me too ).
I guess I'm saying that 'yes, this is what I'm doing' . :)

After trial and error I've now found the halo (half width) sweatband to be by far the best . It fits well under a lid too . I'm now a fan.

Yep, agreed. I've been using the halo headband for the last few pre season nets. Although I haven't batted with it for a considerable amount of time it seems to be doing the trick! Definitely worth a try at £15 ish.

Used mine for a 120ish ball innings in 30c a few weeks ago . Also used it for numerous 2hr bowling machine sessions at a very humid , hot , muggy indoor centre ( well, tin shed , really ) and the difference has been really noticeable .
