Was just wondering if any of the forum members have indulged in purchasing any of the new SF UK range of bats? Would be keen to hear peoples feedback on the bats and/or softs?

I've seen a few and they are belters! Softs are high quality, the bats are low density in the main but good sticks!

that looks like the old platinum model bat. bad break, surely would be replaced?

Not the 2017 range but picked up a black edition from a mate who used to work for SQ sports and it's a ridiculous bit of wood.

The two go hand in hand don't they? Higher moisture content = more weight, more weight = higher density (provided size is the constant)

Light weight bats with big edges will always be on the dryer/low density side. Particularly given the record pros have with bat care... i.e. very few ever oil bats amongst other things

It's because of the bad press,SF bats are not compressed properly.It should be replaced.

By looking at this picture,it should weigh around 2.15 lbs to 3 lbs,if not its not compressed properly,That's the reason for the damage.

could this not be also due to the handle being too tight? as its starting just below the splice?

I don't think the pressing would have made any difference, to me it's storm damage thats broken at the handle as that's where the willow is put under the most stress and therefore it's broke. Overdrying may have played a part but it would have broken eventually anyway

Yes and no. Willow is a natural product, so some is naturally more/less dense than others.

For example, butterfly willow is known to be heavier than a pure sapwood cleft.

B3 explain it best with their clefts having the density calculated before the bat making process begins. Their clefts are all the same size, and they all have the same moisture content, yet some just weigh more/less as they willow density naturally varies.
