Solid career. Let's hope he continues to play first class cricket in WA for some time to come.

Good on him retiring before going to India, keeps his average in check given his poor tour of Sri Lanka.
Definitely a flat track bully but given he's not from the sub continent he won't be called that - different yard stick for aus and eng batsmen

Played at the WACA all his career, hardly a flat track bully. Did benefit from facing a few ordinary attacks.

It was a nice little story, I think.

Benefited against a pathetic West indies attack that has given away more recent world records than any other team.

Also benefited from the shocker no ball decision vs NZ which boosted his average more.

Let's not forget his stints at Notts and Middlesex. Anyone know his stats from CC off the top of their heads?

He was never in the frame to go to india anyway - he wasn't exactly dropped , but was unavailable for a test ( concussion,  hit by a bouncer) then overlooked once he was available again . Sure , might have gone as badly in india as he did in s.l , but he didn't dodge the tour .

I only know that he has always scored shed loads of runs in county cricket. I think he also had a spell at Hampshire.

I was surprised when he was dropped. He had test match temperament and technique. A few failures and he is out. Shame!!

He wasn't dropped as such, he was injured playing in the shield and his replacement cemented his place in the Test side.

20 odd test at ave of 65 shouldnt count?

I think he brought the experience and stability at #5 to an inexperienced aussie team.
