Best big and little.....???
« on: February 18, 2017, 11:19:57 AM »

As most of us on here have owned a silly amount of bats over the years, I was wondering what was your favourite bat from a big brand company and what was your best from a smaller company??

For me I haven't really owned an off the shelf big brand bat for years so couldn't comment, however for a smaller company it would be a custom made Rob Pack. Got over 4 seasons out of her, scoring my first ton and lots of 50's! First ball I ever faced in a game was a 4, from that moment on it was love

I've had 5 bats i would describe as phenomenal, ones that were keepers. And I never sold on. Merely used until destruction or still use.

Gray nicolls kaboom warners players edition.

Kookaburra kahuna extreme

Kookaburra kahnuam big edge

B3 3 stripe(kahuna big edge copy ish)

Affinity custom.

Best big brand bat would be my Kookaburra Bubble acquired from the Hosk. It was one of those £11 ones bleached to an anaemic white, I sanded the bleach out to reveal a lovely butterfly and the ball flies. @Northern monkey had a hit with it last net and seemed to approve.

Small brand would be my h4l devil pinged all over and pick up was great sadly a little too light for me now so I've moved to the bubble

I've had a few real favourites but nothing beats an original Kook Big Kahuna long blade from circa 2005 - what a bat! So much middle, picked up nicely, and pinged like nothing else, all for £100. Have aimed a bunt into the legside for one/two and seen the ball fly out of the ground on more than one occasion with it, or propped forward to play a forward defensive and been amazed when the ball headed back past the bowler for 4. Even still pings now with the face in pieces and the shoulders gone. First bat I ever chose for myself and I don't think I'll ever get a better one, wish I'd looked after it better when I was a teenager and maybe it'd still be going now... although maybe that's wishful thinking.

Small brand favourite is an Aldred Silver Sovereign butterfly 1 I picked up on here, lovely shape with a long spine and really nicely balanced.
Honourable mention to a Phoenix Black (local shop brand, pretty sure Hunts made) that I got my two highest scores with (97 and 90 :( ), similar long spine and pingy but sadly very concaved. Average looking bit of willow but performs as well as almost anything I've used.

Best big, a GM Maestro back in the 80s which looked superb and went like a rocket.

Best small, if you'll forgive the shameless self-promotion, a Lewis Cricket 'Red' that I made for myself in the garage last summer. No greater pleasure than acknowledging a small crowd with a bat from my own workshop!

Best big brand bat will be a GN oblivion 5 star from Jake. Looked like an LE was massive for the weight and just pinged like mad. Used it all year 4 seasons ago now and just loved it.
Best small brand was my HitsHard Super Power. Just the best bat I ever owned and I have never settled with one since then. Came close last season with my B&S which was close call but the HitsHard is arguable my best ever bat

Best big brand bat I've ever had is probably a Kook Biggest Kahuna, or a Woodworm Flame both of which are dropping to bits and are covered in tape but I can't bring myself to throw them out haha, best little brand has got to be my H4L Hellfire Monster, absolute weapon of a bat and gets used regularly alongside my B3 Pepsi.

Totally agree, mine was awesome, it weighed a ton but it was massive and the ping was ridiculous!

Best big brand would have been my DF magnum

Small brand would be either my old grade two ACE, which was used for ten years or so, and was that good, I didn't use a laver I'd bought, for two years.
And only then, because the ACE split in two

But my old Affinity Toro runs it close
A lovely bat that suited me perfectly and was almost an unfair advantage.

But
The best two bats I've seen/used were a scat Simon May had and his Misbah Uzi Pro
Both exceptional bats

Disappointed to only see one pic in this thread. ;)

Best big brand bat I've used is probably my SS TON LE:

Think I scored a 65 with it on the first outing, I don't think I had even netted with it beforehand! Was something special, @smokem can testify to that! Was nice and light at around 2.9!

Best smaller brand bat I have used is probably my B&S Supreme:

Everyone who sees it and taps it up also knows it's something exceptional. It weighs around the 2.10 mark too, so monstrous for the weight. Thanks to @GDP1964 for sorting me out with this a little while back!
