Can you buy Newbery bats without the hammer edge applied?
« on: February 21, 2017, 10:11:59 AM »

Curious question really, popped over to talent cricket yesterday and fell in love with the new Newbery cricket bat infinity. So much so, I'm considering buying one from somewhere.

My only off point being the face was very flat and the hammer edge was applied. Now I know I could remove the scuff myself. But I like to oil the face and round the edges my own way as my prep for a bat.

Cheers in advance

Taking a hammer edge off a new bat is pretty easy to be honest Mark and doesn't really leave enough residue to cause a problem, especially if you loosen it with a hairdryer first.

A simple light sand should and the bat will look brand new.

It's a lot harder once the bat's been used a fair bit but I've taken a couple off of new bats and it's been very easy.

Don't know the details now they've (probably/possibly/definitely) changed their batmaker, but it always used to be the case that the removal of the sheet voided your warranty

I like what you did there @Vitas Cricket - deliberately fudging any specifics, thus avoiding being pursued around the forum by any angry Aldred/SF fanboys.

Nice work.

That interesting Jake, never knew that.

Not sure why it would void the warranty - isn't that kind of implying they aren't confident in the longevity of the bats without the sheet? Maybe that's a discussion for another day  ;)

Also just to note the scuff sheets that the bats now carry since the change of batmaker that may or may not have happened are of very poor quality, easy to see even from a distance that they are not in the same league as hammer edge.

We've had a handful of newbery bats in for knocking in since christmas in all the grades, the change was noticeable in all of them.

Haha...to be fair a few of us should there be a new brand launched(I've read the threads on here not 100 per cent sure I know what's going on), but should there be.....a few of us will be all over it I would think.

All I will say (I think my last comment on Newbery 'vanished' ) is........

They have been an absolutely brilliant brand over the years, and growing up I used Newbery bats, it's no coincidence the pros used to go to them.

I hope they are still successful going forward.

It's definitely coming trust me
Newbery has been absolutely brilliant for many years I remember when I started playing club cricket I was so jealous of all the guys with newbery bats and all I wanted was an Uzi, but it's sliding further and further down as a brand

Team mate of mines got an Uzi, out of all the bats I've seen, at forum nets with Hosk and Simon, this is still up there in the best 3, it pings all over, pick up is fantastic and just feels lovely, really wish they could get back to that standard
