I agree with adie as above

I would say use as light as you can as if you are batting for longer periods fatigue can creep in and technique goes when fatigue sets in for us mere mortals

everyone is different and some may be happy at 2lb10 but others may feel this is a twig

its personal preference the lightest I am comfortable with is 2lb10/11 but for others that might be 3lb or 2lb6

I have found I hold my shape better with a 2.11 bat than with a lighter bat. Anything more then I get tennis elbow. It is a bit if a fine libe for me.

there's a whole other thread on tennis/golfers elbow

do you think it's def the way forward to go significantly lighter for those of us that have suffered with elbow problems?

 As an opening bat and only 5ft 6 inches 2 lb 6 ounce I need the  bats lightness   against the new ball bat speed and all that.     also  like to pull and hook the quicks leave the heavy bats to the hitters

While I don't really have a set weight for a bat - I like a bat with a bit of weight in it. I don't like it to feel too light in the hands. Generally I find anything 2.10 or over seems to work for me. I also like something with a full profile that has minimal concaving.

Current match bat is a Malik limited edition at 2.14, This has taken over from my SS Gladiator at 2.13 (seems to have gotten a bit lighter over 3 years). Every now and then I'll use the GM Argon at 2.11 (cracker bat) or the CA 1500 Plus at 2.10 (another cracker).

Of course it is you what you lose in welight you gain in bat speed  but the main benefit is  that the lighter bat will enable you to bat longer as you won't be distracted by elbow pain

I have tennis elbow , the last 10 months or so . All my bats are between 2lb6oz and 2lb9oz.  The 2lb9oz's exacerbate the elbow pain( particularly when off driving) , but 2lb8oz is fine . So i don't think you need to drop too much weight necessarily,  just enough to not strain so hard .

Don't really consider weight at all now, I know I prefer the lighter end of the spectrum, but it is all purely on the pick-up. I have 3 bats, and I couldn't tell you the weight of any of them, simply that they pick up well.

that's what I was thinking......just a bit of a drop say from 2 10 oz to 2 lb 8 or something like that...


too much weight change and it might affect what you have got used to playing with.

Pain is the friend of tennis elbow! You need to punish it as much as you can to rebuild the damage.

I'm down to 2.8 now
Might go up a bit once the season starts, but only an ounce or so.
I've used upto 3lb bats in my younger gym days, but I wouldn't be able to play a shot nowadays with anything over 2.10.
All depends on what shots you play, how long you bat,physical condition,balls being faced etc etc

We are all different,
I've always felt your better using a lighter bat, than one too heavy for you

I usually use 2.9lb have 2 bats around that weight but my main match bat this year is 2.11lb thanks to the pick up.

I don't ever look for a bat based on weight, I tend to try a sample from 2.7 to 2.10 and see which ones feel best and then narrow it down to 2 or 3. I will then tap them up and weigh them to make a final decision.

On my recent trip up to Kookaburra I was given around 10-12 Blaze bats and only weighed them once I was down to 2, they both felt very similar but the one I went with was 2 ounces heavier so I went with that as it felt a tad better and the lighter one I felt would encourage me the be early on my shots due to being that light.

I thought it was rest that was the friend  won't punishing your elbow aggravate it

2lb8 is about optimal for me. I find these have the best balance for me when in the back lift position helps me transition to the ball smoother. I thought I was always a 2lb10 guy till i tried my current match bat. Don't think I will vary to much from this mark now +/- 0.5lb.
