Winter net footage 2017
« on: March 04, 2017, 09:05:03 PM »

Evening all

Please can you lovely forum folk take a look at my net video and give some advice/feedback?
I get cleaned up playing a nothing shot at around 4.06, but that aside I don't think I was as awful as I used to be!

Apologies for the audio, it was hammering it down outside at the time of recording which seems to have come through rather loud! :-[

If I was being critical I would say that you need to be more definite in your foot movement and get closer to the pitch of the ball. Other than that you were hitting the ball nicely.

Basics are all there, I'm no expert but would say try to use your top hand a bit more and don't look to walk down the wicket so often? But some good good shots there,

I nicked off when I tried giving myself room, to which the fist team skipper shouted "try not to back away, Cam"
If I'm perfectly honest I was only walking at the bowlers to prove I wasn't "backing away" as such, it was just a crap shot!

Video appears to have gone?

Anyway, from what i saw you do look quite stiff and seem to race through the shot. My advice is be more like Mark Waugh.

Original post amended with (hopefully) working link

I have no idea what I pressed but it did vanish. I shouldn't be left unattended with technology! :-[

I've just finished editing and uploading my video from yesterday's net (that I actually bothered taking out the waffle between balls this week too!)

I didn't think I batted that well, but watching it back it wasn't as horrendous as it felt at the time (snooker shot aside!)

Here is some footage from last night's session
I was in a net facing only spinners, hence the mat being down.

As always feedback much appreciated.

I actually felt I batted awfully so it will be interesting to see what you guys think.

You play well down the ground and smack a full toss really well. But you were out fourth ball. Value your wicket a lot more and watch the hands more, you are trying to guess which way its turning after pitching. Also decide which way you want to go, front foot or back foot, in between doesn't work. I understand you are predominantly a bowler and have no idea how far you have improved. Try and do some footwork drills to improve overall coordination.

Taking your quote out of context, this sums it up I think... :-[

First thing I'd say is I know where I'd put my fielders. So unless you absolutely middle it the most you are going to get is 1.

Secondly, your mindset seems to be hit, hit, hit. Whilst scoring is obviously the ultimate aim there is more than one way to do this. A pushed single off the back foot through point is going to score you the same amount as a smashed slog sweep that the man at wide long on collects one bounce. And the risk is significantly reduced. And if you do get yourself 'in' a little bit - that favoured leg side biff will become alot easier. You do connect with a few well so you cant forget that shot completely but patience and selection is key.

Thirdly I would echo what Blazer has said and value your wicket alot more. Make the bowler get you out, even if you bat in the lower order.

All my points are mental points rather than technical as these are what I would view as my own strengths. I am far from technically correct but manage to do ok.

Lastly, and its not a personal dig as I used to be a similar size, lose some weight. You can turn dots into singles and 1s into 2s and generally reduce fatigue if you bat for a while. Ive got alot fitter over the last 2/3 years and I reckon its added 5 runs onto my average

Personal dig or not that one stung a bit.
I'm off for a deep fried mars bar topped with a pint of ice cream to console myself... :-[

Another week, another net!

Less than 10 minutes worth of batting tonight due to the turnout, and once I took the wides out I only faced 25 "hittable" deliveries.
"That will be £5, thanks for coming" :-[

I was facing spinners again, and my initial aim was to try and play everything under my eyes.
I thought I batted horrendously tonight, having skied one and missed a straight one in consecutive balls!  :(

As always thoughts and feedback much appreciated  :)

Well you started well and got your hands over the ball well. Then started slogging!
