Giddy-up!
« on: March 11, 2017, 01:36:19 PM »

While i dont think i'll share the photo of the horror inside this box, i have managed to acquire me a horses shin bone.

Anyone have any experience in preparing a horses shin bone? Do i just saw the knuckle off each end, scrape out the marrow and submerse in linseed oil for the next 6 months? Any tips?

you will need to clean it up and boil it in water really well, else will stink.
Once dried, submurge in linseed oil for 6 months - 1 year and then it is good to go.

Thanks Chad, mad - I'll give it a go. Might wait till ive got the house to myself though.... For some reason the wife was already less than impressed with me stuffing a horse leg in the freezer so boiling it up in the kitchen may prove problematic.

We talking full rolling boil? Or slown n low?

Just wondering if i can ruin the qualities/longevity of the bone by heating it too aggressively.

Boil the hell out of it and let it dry completely.
