Steel vs Titanium
« on: March 21, 2017, 07:21:35 PM »

My wife is adamant that I get one of these new-fangled safety-compliant lids. So, my question is, before I start spending the readies, does a titanium grill really make much difference?

Please note, the only thing I can fit my noggin into is one of the Vision series Masuri.

Any advice gratefully received.

Ta.

Personally I don't notice much difference but there is a slight weight difference. I got a elite titanium this year and it took me a session or two to get used to it but it's fine now.

Try the Ayrteks @Alvaro . I have an absolutely giant swede and the only two helmets I've been able to find that fit me so far are a £15 Slazenger Sports Direct jobby and Ayrtek's.

In terms of weight, not a massive difference but you can tell which one of mine has the steel and which has the titanium on it.

Titanium grille makes the helmet about 120g lighter overall compared to its steel counterpart. (840g vs 720g approx).

Let me know if you want to try one as still got some Fixed position Ti grills in stock.

Im the same, i have a large irregular shaped head and i could get the masuri vision series to fit but it was just too heavy. The Ayrtek fits perfectly (i have one of the ACIS lined Ayrtek's). Im intrigued to try one of the OS2 masuri's but believe they come up smaller than the vision but as no stores near me stock it i cant try one on

@iand123 I'm a standard size in the Vision Series, but had to go up to a large in the OS2 (and I don't have a particularly big head!) so they definitely come up smaller.

Thanks @WalkingWicket37 - i suspect they will be too small for me then.

I have to agree with Cam, i tried on the OS2 at Lorimers last week and I had to go up a size to the large men's.

Never noticed when I switched from Steel to Ti, but tried to go back and then I really noticed it.

Prior to my current helmet that I bought over here,  I had two Masuri Ti 's. They were great, but I couldn't get along with the new style ones over here when I tried them on (I had the older adjustable grill ones). Got the Gray Nicolls Test helmet as it was really comfy and I liked the gap between the peak and the grill. Haven't noticed any difference when wearing it and I'd say most of the differences people experience is in their head rather than on it ;)

In saying that, with all gear, if you want it and it gives you a bit of added confidence then getting the pricier option is always the way to go haha

My Masuri Titanium helmet arrived yesterday thanks @rich041187 for looking after it so well - and I must admit that the Titanium vs the steel grill of the Arytek feels so much lighter.

I know they are different designs and brands but the Masrui feels a lot better to wear
