David Warner Kaboom Players Edition Refurb
« on: March 22, 2017, 06:23:26 PM »

Hi lads, so as usual, I managed to get my hands on yet another bat. This one was in a bit of a sorry state, so I'll post up the pics of how it looked like when I received it.

Absolutely battered inside edge:

Surprisingly untouched outside edge:

Toe crack:

Odd binding, of which around a quarter was undone before I took this photo (I eventually managed to get the final stubborn bit to wrap round again):

And now, after all the scuff removal, gluing of cracks and sanding:

Mullanator on roids?

Middle please?

Comparing 3 monsters:

Quite the change from bats made around 10 years ago:

Specs:
Weight - 2lb 14.1oz unscuffed
Edge - 51mm outside and 48mm inside
Spine - Approx 70mm
Toe edge - 19mm
Toe - 24mm
Shoulder - 14mm
Face camber - around 4-5mm
Handle - Oval
Concaving - Very minimal

Not quite got time to finish this yet, but as you can see, a BIG bat! :) Hope the pics do it justice, it's honestly just ridiculous!

Nice and huge Chad, what's the backstory to this one lol

How's the pickup vs the lower middle on the H4L?

It's the piano haha, makes bats more enticing. If all retailers bought one to take pics on, well they'd probably pay it off in no time with the extra sales. ;)

Am i the only one that thinks if i was paying the massive price tag for a bat of this nature it would look a bit better? ie staighter grains, more grains
Refurb looks top job mate

Never been able to justify one when i see them

I have a couple with very nice grains, especially 50+'s...
But I think they grade those particular willow on performance and density rather than looks with a minimum of 6 grains... I have a couple of 10+ grains ones that performs more or less the same.
SG can custom make 45-48mm edge bats but they all weigh around 3+

I understand what they grade them on, im more saying if im paying that price for a bat i would be expecting a lot better, I laught when i see the "Players Grade " sticker when really grading is Cosmetic based now

How's the pickup vs the lower middle on the H4L?

Hi Andy, it is ridiculously big! All 3 bats are exceptional, the best pick up wise out of them is probably the Halestorm, which should weigh in around the 2.14 mark. The H4L from memory is 2.12.5 unscuffed, and picks up lighter than the Warner, but it is lighter too! Just from looking at the shapes, I reckon both would pick up pretty equally, with the Warner having next to no concaving, but the H4L with a thicker toe. In terms of swell position, there's probably less than an inch difference. I'll probably do a thread where I compare the big bats, or at least compare solely the Halestorm and Warner.

These 3 are probably the best and biggest bats I've had in those respective weights, which somewhat supports the argument that increase in size for the weight = increase in performance, at least somewhat. Then again, these could just be exceptional bats from some of the best batmakers in the world. :) (Not sure who specifically made the GNs, but know they're made in the AUS and UK) @skip1973 , any idea what a T stamp on the shoulder means for Aus GNs?

A friend of a friend was selling it, so he dropped me a message and I dropped some of my bank account. D: Oh wow, you're picking up quite the collection too, eh? How's the XP80 going? Your Warner will make your Purist look like a twig!
