Washing Your Rubbers!
« on: March 30, 2017, 09:37:28 AM »

I've got a bunch of dusty and dirty, but unused grips.

Do people actually wash them, or does that cause them to deteriorate at all?

I wash them with fairy liquid

it gets them clean but pretty much destroys the rubber

I don't care because i don't care how I look on the field, although my mum told me at 14 when I started playing ''you must always look like a cricketer''

I like to unroll mine, give them a good rinse then a good soak in a mild detergent, after they have soaked for a good while I take them out and place them on a dry microfibre cloth. Then take some good quality water based oil and cover then inside and out with the oil. Then after they have a good coating of oil carefully roll them up. Ensure there are rolled nice and tight and put them in a zip lock bag to keep fresh for next time.

One tip I do have is to ensure they are completely unrolled past the serial number...

Oh sorry most of you may never have rolled them back that far to even know there was a serial number

Agree with your mum when you look like a cricketer you feel and play like one.

You've clearly never seen me play, I look like a proper cricketer in my pristine whites and with full matching gear. That illusion is shattered as soon as I have to actually do something on the pitch...

Stick them in the machine and they come up lovely. Done it several times and doesn't have any detrimental effect on the rubber.

He would be a big, pasty, naked guy - holding on to a bit of rubber!
