County vs Uni
« on: April 03, 2017, 02:33:21 PM »

Was looking through and wondering what people's thoughts are on the CC this year?
What's the thoughts behind Anderson being allowed to play for Lancs in such an insignificant game mind?
And who're the two playing for Loughborough who've both tonned up?!

Anderson needs overs under his belt, makes sense...

One of those lads his the main bat for Canada and the other score 200* for Northants 2s last year. Everybody who plays for uni teams will be playing ECB premier league club cricket and most likely will have played county age group at some point

Jimmy's just getting some miles in his legs and making some youngsters look a bit silly. Doesn't look too good for northants bowling if the students are taking them apart.

well in the lancs game Barton is making a name for himself. he has 8 wickets in the match so far. and Jimmy 5-10.

Anderson im not surprised at all is playing. At his age he needs to get thru the whole season without any significant injury.

Can't imagine going to Australia without him to be honest.

Yeah I suppose it's a game where it's not too intense and gets some match-overs under his belt. What's his availability in regards to the CC on Friday and first few games?

Well, it's either Northants having their bowlers shown up, or the batsmen are actually decent and making a name for themselves?

Not entirely true. We had Rob Woolley for 3 years, he was captain of Cambridge MCCU, including the game where they beat Surrey and he clean bowled KP. He also played for the MCC Universities side and played for the Unicorns on and off over 2 or 3 years. He now plays for Chipstead who are in the Surrey Championship i believe.
We also had Devon Endersby for a while who was at Loughborough in the MCCU team and also played for MCC Universities.

We play one below the East Anglian ECB prem.

I played with Charlie Thurston at Middlesex Academy for a couple of years - decent player. Back then was using Hunts County gear - must have been one of the few contracted players still going with them! Proper good quality sticks they were too!

Robbie White currently 40 odd not is same age as Charlie, plays for Ealing in ECB Middlesex Prem against us a couple times a year. Again, decent bat, played 2s for a fair while for Middlesex now, keeper, good lad

I'd love someone to explain to me how Anderson and Hameed - who need to be wrapped in cotton wool - can play these trifling knockabouts but Bairstow, Root and Rashid can't play Championship cricket.

I watched day 1 and thought both Barton and Rippington looked decent without much luck. Both caused issues and had a fair few runs go down to third man. Pretty sure I got out to Rippington about 3 years ago playing in Tucker 1.

Not true, they don't all play premier league cricket at all.

Whether its right or wrong or you like it or not the reason is simple - Anderson and Hameed last played at the start of December and Root, Bairstow and Rashid got back from WI in March.

Since Anderson last played competitively, YJB has played two days and Rashid five. Both are more than five years younger, have not had the years of injuries including stress fractures that indicate the body breaking down.

You're right, makes absolute, perfect sense.

Cash?!  ;) Woolers is a great guy to have in your team.

Also when he was trying to go Pro he was largely playing Prem cricket iirc
