Misbah-ul-haq
« on: April 06, 2017, 10:04:55 AM »

Misbah to retire from international cricket at the end of the West Indies series

Great servant to Pakistani cricket and has done an amazing job of transforming a team to world number 1 from a wreck in 2010!!

Massive loss!

the bloke is a credit to Pakistan

watched him score loads at the Oval and Lords last year and then do some press up's!!

seriously to unite the Pakistan team in recent years he deserves a medal

happy retirement

I think the turning point in his career was when he cleaned me up with a floaty offbreak.

Rained at the innings break so I never got the chance to return the favour.

EDIT - even found the scorecard http://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/421/421852.html

Misbah wasn't even the most famous sportsman on the oppositions team that day!

Loved his style and did a great job for Pakistan, but on the other hand Misbah is singlehandedly responsible for ruining cricket! If he hadn't gone for a daft scoop in the first W20 final Pakistan would have won, India still wouldn't care about t20, tests would remain king and county cricket would be safe from city t20s ;)

As a greying, balding, thirty-something with an ever-increasing waist and aching joints, watching Misbah turn up and perform on the international stage well into his fifth decade gave me hope that perhaps I wasn't completely past my peak. It's not the same when you're watching the TV and they're all little shits half your age. It's really weird when you get to this age and still have sportsmen that can look up to like you did when you were a kid.

As a result, he honestly be my favourite sportsman of all time and by God I'm going to miss him. I could probably fill this thread with a hundred posts about how much I love him, and I think I might do it anyway.

The team that prized its brash talent ultimately settled down under his steady and calm leadership! And to, ahem, young-at-heart cricketers like myself, he was an inspiration. Well done, Misbah! You will be missed.

A great skipper for Pakistan and not a bad player himself. Had to wait for his turn, but made the most of the opportunity. United a team which was experiencing all kinds of issues! Having to play away from home, and to maintain decent standards, hats off to him!
