Simple request....copy my bat..... weight balance etc...too much to ask?

Had 2 batmakers who couldn't do this...weight has always been out at least 2/3 oz thus affecting balance.  I will never go custom again..all hype in my opinion!

Did you explain said issues to the bafmaksrs after?
Generally speaking (providing you gave them the right specs) any maker would be happy to sort such an issue if you've paid for a custom replica and haven't got it

I sent my bat to them for them to replicate. They said for me to send it back and they'll have a look at it, along with bat I wanted copied. Postage charges...inconvenience of not having my match bat... abit of a pain...why not get it right the first time?

Have to agree its annoyingly inconvenient  and to easy to say send it back when your not the one who's  being inconvenienced  no excuses for non attention to detail.

That does sound annoying indeed especially now as the seasons just about to start and you wouldn't want to go into it without your number one.
Agree it should have been done right the first time but you would hope if there was any problems that the batmaker would be swift and straightforward in dealing with the issues. Could you not just send it back alone and say they need to get 2-3 ounces out of it?

surely to copy a bat exactly is not that straight forward.. for a bat to have exactly the same attributes of shape, size and pick up then the willow density has to be exactly the same. Which I assume is not so straight forward for a small independent bat maker to be precise about.

A higher density bat will always have more weight for the equivalent dimensions and vice a versa. I appreciate that if someone has committed to an exact replica then thats what they should be able to provide but given the natural product willow is unless I was absolutely specific about my requirements then depending on my preferences I would always expect some variation in either shape or weight because of it.

Totally agree. I wasnt fussed about edge size spine height etc. Just wanted the bat to pick up the same with the same shape.

And dont forget, the attachment you have with the shape of a bat is probably in part because of the size of that shape (edge/spine etc). It might seem a simple task to copy a bat, obviously harder if your relying on the skill of a bat maker shaping the thing by hand v a machine. But it aint easy to read a mind! So if i wanted a very specific outcome, then id be sure to be very specific in what my priorities were when discussing the job with the bat maker.

Your conversation went something like this?

"Copy this amazing profile please sir. Can you allow for slightly larger dimensions in the case the cleft you use turns out to be naturally lighter than the cleft used in the original. If not, gradually reduce the dimensions until the bats weigh the same."

If you did that then i dunno. Maybe its just not that easy to copy a bat by hand?

@thedon Try B3 next time. With the expertise of @Doctor you would save time and money both. Just send them pictures and have a chat with them.

You may not get the same size bat, it could be slightly larger os smaller but I always try and aim to get reasonably close. Weight shouldn't be an issue as that's a key part of copying. Unless I'm instructed otherwise, I will copy shape and weight and replicate handle to the best of my ability too. The bat maker Should be ashamed sending out a copy of a bat that weights 2-3 oz more. It's not like you can use the unfinished/ finished weight argument as they had the bat there to copy. Weighing the bat ungripped and gripped is the first thing I do.

Then you can have the pleasure of watching your new bat get made, hold it, wave it around a bit, and make sure you are comfortable with the end result. The petrol you burn to get there and back may well be less costly than sending bats backwards and forwards in the post.
