My 2 cents ...

If you are disappointed with the edge size/spine height/weight, I would say its understandable. However pick up is a relative thing and I am not sure how a bat maker can meet your pick up expectation. I am not trying to defend the bat-maker but i for one won't hold a bat maker at fault for pick up. If possible, visit the bat maker in person and try to get it done. This way you can feel the blade in your hand and if it feels heavy, the bat maker would be able to fix it right there. If you are living in place where there is no access to bat maker, i would recommend sticking to brands which you have used before and feel comfortable with. Most of the forum retailers can find a bat in your desired spec, but i would still not hold them responsible for pick up.

I live in US and have no access to bat makers. I rely on the judgement of @Vitas Cricket and @Uzi Sports to get my bats. My golden rule - mid to low sweet spot (full or concave profile) i can't handle more than 2lb 9oz & for mid to high sweet spot i can handle upto 2lb12oz(prefer to keep it at 2lb 11oz or lower). I go by this rule but many a times they have very attractive bats which fall outside my comfort zone and i tend to skip it. Pick up might make those bats feel lighter than they are but i am not willing to take that risk. Getting a bat from UK and trying to return it a major shipping hassle (US to UK shipping is completely messed up. Parcel monkey is the cheapest but for the most part i have to chase them for weeks to track a package. Have a GN return back to Asad which is in transit for 3+ weeks now).

I didnt ask for any particular specs with regard to edge size, spine etc. My specifications were simple, copy the bat shape with the same weight.

Thought I would update this. So sent the new bat back (along with the bat to be copied) back to talent cricket. Told them it was too heavy and told them it was 3 oz out in weight. Also they put an oval handle in, instead of a round, and 2 months in, they still hadnt sent out the grips i had ordered!

So the reduced weight bat finally came back to me last week. Weight has gone down, but the balance is nothing like the bat I wanted copied.

I have to say I really am disappointed with talent cricket. I asked to speak to the owner no fewer than 4 times, and he was always busy and never called me back. I dont know if I can return the bat for a refund

As I understand, Talent sell custom made bats which are done via Hunts.

Which, after reading the above, really surprises me as I've had no end of bats copied by Hunts, all coming back at virtually the exact same weight (we're talking maybe a few grams either side at most!).

I've never had a bad blade from Hunts personally and I've lost count of how many it's been!

I've always wanted a hunts, and when I initially spoke with one of the guys at talent, he was very knowledgeable and came across very sincere. I thought the process would be easy, seeing I was sending the bat which was to be replicated. Plus I wanted to buy a few other bits and bobs from talent

Ah ok, I wasn't sure who they used. I would think if they haven't supplied what you have asked for you should be entitled to return.

Depends what was exactly asked for, and whether Talent actually sent his bat on to Hunts or not...

Returns on custom-made items are a tricky one. Legally speaking, a business doesn't actually have to accept a return for an item which was custom-made (unless the item is faulty, however in this instance that isn't the case).

For custom-made bats you're relying solely on the brand's customer service over any actual legal rights.

Leave Hunts out for a second, if he asked for a copy of an existing bat he sent to them and he doesn't get a copy of it then he hasn't received described goods,it's like ordering kooka gloves and they send a GN equivelent. I don't think it's tricky at all is it?

Reading up on their terms and conditions, they say they will use their discretion regarding a return on custom bats. Also if they choose to refund, they will deduct �20 for postage etc

I would say close but not identical. I wouldnt call it an exact bat copy, but I'm not too fussed about that, as long as it's something similar

It's not that simple, as you're not ordering a specific brand it isn't that straight forward.

To put it bluntly, if you order a 'blank Grade 1 custom-made cricket bat' and receive a 'blank Grade 1 custom-made cricket bat' then it leaves you with little to no comeback. I'm not saying any company would actually enforce the law to the letter (I certainly wouldn't!), but legally it's fairly black and white in that sense.
