@thecord are you keeping and captaining? i can never concentrate on both at once!

Hi Rich, hope you're well.

I'm trying not to as we have a very handy younger keeper but he's away in Vegas this weekend so I'm thrown in at the deep end doing both which as you say is never easy!
I'll be looking for some support from my vice on the day no doubt

Brand spanking new covers, look very smart. Pitch definitely looks like it's improved from my uni days, I've played there enough times to know to take a bit of extra food haha so I'm at least forewarned if that hasn't changed.

Looks like a competitive league for you to say the least, best of luck!

New covers eh? Lucky chaps. Hope you get a decent run at things with them mate.

Yes competitive as in bloody tough, survival would be a huge achievement.

Midweek game yesterday
DNB, 0-20 off 3 (defending 171 off 16) and took a catch in the outfield

Training tonight and I wish I hadn't bothered. Nothing felt right when I bowled, I've got a horribly swollen finger after a dropped catch and I batted like a blind Chris Martin!

I've been selected for the 5th XI on Saturday. It's a bit of a kick in the teeth as I've been a 2nd XI regular for the last 4 seasons, but at least I'm getting a game.

With how my luck seems to have gone in the pre-season games I'm considering retiring if I don't get a score, another crap game and carrying on much longer would be a form of self torture. I feel as if I hate cricket already and the season hasn't even started!  :(
Bilmey Cam that's a ibit harsh on yourself when you have a poor one just forget it and look forward to next week.

First proper match for me tomorrow and it's a cup game nowhere near match fit but raring to go hope the club can get 11 guys on the pitch.
Captain as stated its 50 overs regardless of win or lose use the the game as a warm up for  league matches so it's head  still eyes level  watchthe ball and proper batting.
Hopefully we will bat first on an even surface as an opener never liked batting second this time of year for many reasons including that the batting crease looks like someone has tried to dig an hole

Senior is right Camelot forget where you are playing, outside issues and concentrate on the ball and which windows you are going to break

as you will know ive practised since august for this year, ive got the unplayable ball from hell 2 weeks ago, out for 1, last Saturday caught off a shoulder high full toss for 4(one shot it was beautiful cover drive)

I stood there protesting it was a no-ball to no avail

after the game my mate umpiring at square leg said ''im sorry if I got that call wrong, hope I didn't ruin your weekend'  he did actually

but it's on to this week and the red thing at some point is going to get some hammer

keep going

Good pre season and first real innings haven't transferred.

Second sat I got 12, I slight back niggle and slight various bounce got in my head and I played an ugly ugly shot.

First midweek game, I was stumped off a wide...... went walking when the ball wasn't dead and paid the price.
Was rather embarrassing

Team overal have not lost yet though.

Lms tonight and what should be a good game sat, so hopefully concentrate better in those

We went 2 from 2 at the weekend.
Still got massive ankle troubles but ended up bowling 13-5-31-2 and came in at the end to finish 1 not out.
Captaincy is going well too....But still a long season to come.

Good stuff @LcWoodward  I keep checking your results on play cricket and will pop down in the coming weeks when you are at home to watch a few overs

That's the second time I've had the worst net of my life in the last 2 days.
Contemplating dropping out this Saturday and letting someone who will actually play in the 5th XI regularly my spot. I feel that would do more for the team and the club than if I played.

I think this is the first time I've felt like giving up before even playing a league game :-[  :(

Nets count for very little IMO mate, I was terrible again on Tuesday as the variety of bowling coming down differed each time so it's nothing like facing an over of someone on a weekend game to get the feel of the pitch and pace from.

Decided to play for our Thursday evening team tonight and we got hammered. Midweek cricket is a young man's game, especially up here in Yorkshire before the summer arrives. Dropped a skyer at short third man off a top edged pull shot which went a long way up. I say dropped but I didn't actually get a hand on it as the spin+wind combined to make me look an even worse fielder than I already am.

To cap the evening off, someone appears to have made off with my box.

Just echoing what's been said, Net don't count for very much especially early in the season. Had a really good net against the machine on Wednesday night to the look like I didnt know which end of the bat to use last night. It's swings and roundabouts really, you just have to go into the first game with some self confidence and you'll be fine.

Cam you could always  do what I do stay away from  batting in nets because i can't bat in them either.
