Bowled 4 overs for 8 runs then pulled my calf muscle as I was about to deliver the first ball of my 5th over and had to hobble off. I didn't realise how boring it was to watch so hobbled back on for last 15 overs and managed to save a few runs. Opposition still racked up 204-4 which was 40-50 more runs than they should have done as we were absolutely dreadful in the field.

Batting wise, I went in at No.7 and immediately hit a boundary to a delivery with a bit of width but seriously struggled with a couple of straight deliveries and with others to bat, I retired hurt. As it happened this was a good move as the next batsman started biffing the ball to all parts and we only ended up 30 runs short on 174-5.

Finally, I should report the teas were excellent and at drinks whilst we fielding, the opposition skipper also brought out freshly cut oranges.

Well it was the big semi final. Despite missing my star player as written elsewhere we had a decent side out. We had the luxury of umpires and even a scorer! They had dropped a couple of 1s in strengthen and were in league above us. I won the toss decided to bat a slightly soft wicket. Felt runs on the board was the way to go. Im struggling with a shoulder problem and couldn't get ball off square with the slowest of wicket and departed early for single figures. No one got in and went big just lots of little scores and cameos. We eventually finished on 185 off 40 overs, which I felt made us slight favourites at tea. They made a solid if unspectacular start but didn't lose wickets until first change got 2 in 2 balls. However the number 4 batted superbly and made a quick 50 and the game was running away from us. However an excellent catch followed by a superb direct hit run out by the same fielder turned the game towards us again. They needed 12 in the last over and came up 7 short with the last wicket falling to another direct hit run out going for 2.

A brilliant cricket game and result and now a final in two weeks time to look forward to. I hope I can get this shoulder sorted by then I was definitely the weak link today.

Won yesterday

It was a cracking game against a good bunch of lads
Agreed at the start to reduce the overs to 25 each due to rain forecast at 4pm
We put them in to bat, and they got 79 from their 25
Didn't look to see how many my bowling went for, and I dint take any wickets, but bowled ok on a nice bouncy green wicket.

I opened for a change and biffed a few, before missing a straight one,(again)
We lost a few more wickets, before our very own forum legend, Mr Hosk batted superbly to knock the remaining runs off easily

A really good team win, with everyone contributing

We got a much needed win yesterday and everyone involved witnessed a part of league history that may not be repeated, we were skittled for 86, as many would like to expect the other team would knock it off easy but our opening bowler on his return to the club managed figures of 10-24 off 9 and a bit overs to lead us to a 35 run victory, the first ever 10-fer in premier league history, if carlsberg did returns !!!

Day of mixed emotions yesterday, which ended in a Winning Draw for us.

Started of badly , lost a very bad toss on a known to be uncovered bad council wicket (rain Friday night as well).

Then got even worse when they opened with spin and i somehow managed to smash it onto my foot and the ball went back onto the stumps 😠😠

We collapsed to 100-9 but then our 10 and 11 played brilliantly to put on 60 for the last wicket and we posted 162. Which I thought was a good score on that pitch.

That proved that as they slipped to 40-5 and then 95-8 but we couldn't get the final couple and they finished 115-8.

What really bugged me was that the oppo are in the relegation zone and need to win games but once we got there main batter out they didn't even try and go for it. Shut up shop for probably 30 overs and they got 7 points from the game (we got 17).

We now drop down to 2nd - 2 points behind top.

After first duck of the league season two weeks ago, and no game last week. It was great to play a bit of gentle cricket down in Klive on Wednesday with @t2ylo and hit a few runs and even pick up a couple of wickets! Was good bit of practice.

When our groundsman attempted to call off yesterdays game at 9am alot of negotiation began as we couldn't afford to miss the game. Fogrtunately we managed to get an agreement to wait and in truth at 12.30 the square was squelchy, but it continued to dry enough to get a game.

The pitch was really tough to bat on with us reducing the oppo to 31-9, however, as the pitch dried and the ball softened it got easier and they managed to get to 80 which i was concerned might be a good score. Rather than doing what a wet pitch would normally do it became quick and very bouncy. Not dangerous. Ut you were able to dig it in and bowl good was reslly strange.

Anyway we knocked the runs off 7 down making s right meal of it. I top scored with 30. Pitch was poor but it produced a good game of cricket which is the main thing. Second and 3 points behind league leaders. Should get promoted again but be nice to get the trophy. Top have beaten us twice so we dont deserve it really.

Having played in the Y&DSCL for many years, I'm afraid this is what happens when a league has losing draws and it does quite often lead to some very dull matches. Now that I am playing in the Wetherby League, it's basically win or lose so the team that bats second almost always bats more positively. I have been involved in some very close matches which have gone down to the last wicket where 10 or less is needed to win.  The clever thing (well in my opinion) is that you get 1 point (maximum of 6 available for a win) for reaching 75% regardless whether you're all out (chasing the opposition total) or not so teams have a license to keep batting positively until the end of the match.

Yes agreed when you have winning and losing draws you run the risk of some boring games. In the 4 Counties we also have rules which doesn't help where you get extra points for being within 50 or 25 runs. The league think it encourages sides to get closer to the target but at just acts as a milestone to block out for.
Also the points difference isn't big enough between winning and drawing in my opinion. 25 win batting 2nd and you could get 18 for a losing draw in theory.
A lot of people have campaigned for win lose but it never seems to get through a vote at the league AGM.

We got soundly beaten yesterday. We didn't stand much chance against a good team, us very weak due to a wedding.

I really hate the bonus point rules. We were never going to chase down the 237 to win. I went in at 7 when we were about 80/5. I wanted to bat largely for myself just to get a bit of time in the middle. I hoped I could get us a bonus point or two but we didn't even manage that.

I really don't like the tactic of blocking out remaining overs to deny the opposition a few points. I'd rather just try to win the match and if that isn't possible have a bit of a net but try to score a few runs.

I think the best way is something like 10 points for a win, 5 each for tie or rain game and 1 bonus point if you get to 90% of the opposition's target or you get them 9 wickets down regardless of being all out or not. That is purely to encourage teams to keep pushing for a win.

Would you have played the pull shot, years ago, before helmets ?
Growing up, it was rare to see it played, nowadays it's a regular shot to a short ball.

Hope you recover quickly sir

Still only playing short games. As not fit enough for sat.

Tonight. Oppo scored 104 of there 12 overs.
In reply we was 42 for 0 of 3 and a half overs and the heavens opened.

I score 35 of 15. To add to last week's 54 of 24balls.

Midweek league done, team came third, I was second highest scorer in our division with 222 from 5 games at an average of 55.25.

If only I wasnt injured.  And manage to play in the other 4 games.

Now to make a comeback on a sat.

We sit 5th after a loss on Saturday.
We loss the toss and got inserted on a wet deck that started to do alsorts.
Bowled out for 74.
We got into them and had them 22-6 at one point. Myself and the other opener ran out of overs and they knocked off 8 down.
Playing top of the league saturday(we are the only team to beat them this year) with half of the side missing, i'm the only out and out bowler.
Should be fun!
