Scorer needed (Middlesex/Bucks)
« on: April 12, 2017, 04:09:22 PM »

Hi all

Just wondered if anyone is or knows a scorer who is willing to score Sunday's for Uxbridge CC in division 1 of the Chess Valley League as the league requires teams to have a scorer and umpire.  The fixture list includes some nice grounds and is a decent standard...

21st May vs Hertford (H)
4th June vs Radlett (A)
18th June vs Harrow town (A)
25th June vs Finchley (A)
2nd July vs Holtwhite Trinibis (H)
16th July UCS Old Boys (A)
13th august vs Chesham (A)
20th august vs harefield (H)

Club are willing to pay up to £25 a game plus a drink or two! Opportunities to score friendlies when league games are not on is also available.

Please pass on contact details if you know anyone who may be interested thank you.

It's creeping into leagues that teams 'have' to have scorers etc. Now, I've never played league cricket without one but surely in a time when clubs are already struggling such stupid 'musts' to be in a league will do more harm than good ?

WEPL required us to have one or we would have to give up a fielder to do it, madness when trying to put out 5 sensible sides on a Saturday and having to drag someone along as 12th man/scorer.

I assume people said no to that Tom ? (As in dragging someone from playing)

You have to have a scorer in the the Worcester clubs this season this is a another problem for us as never mind getting a scorer we can't get eleven players.

Thankfully we talked one of the girls into doing it most weeks who was a friend of our opening bowler but did have to put out some SOS calls on the occasions she couldn't make it (my mum and brother when he was recovering from a knee op).

Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately £25 is the highest we can go.  I wish you luck in your quest to find a club to score for this season.

Yeh it's not like ur employing someone to do it, more of a case of finding someone who is happy to do it and throwing them a few beer tokens in the process as a gesture of thanks for their time. We paid ours £15 and a few drinks and she got free cricket tea. The £15 ended up behind our bar anyway usually 👍

Glos wepl has a few teams without a scorer this year and they are having to start offering out £50 plus drinks and teas. Still little to no interest.

5 points deduction for having no scorer in the cherwell league.
in theory a guy whose never picked up a bat or ball in there life could win you the title.
crazy.

We've had the requirement of scorers in the Essex League (1st XIs) for a good few years now. You loose a point for not having a "competent scorer". Some clubs push the boundaries of "competent", my old man scores for us and is excellent but often sits with a 10 year old who don't have a clue.

This year the league have taken it to a new level after years of not quite getting the rain break and adjusted targets right we have gone over to full on Duckworth Lewis. Of course Duckworth Lewis requires calculations based on what scores have been posted to the point of stoppage. Therefore every club now needs a fully functioning printer in order to have the ability to provide both captains and umpires th correct D/L adjusted totals sheet. Failure to have a working printer or the inability to provide the sheet will result in the home team conceeding the fixture regardless of the score and weather situation.

Just Imagine getting relegated or missing out on promotion because of a printer error!
