So my club had the square relaid over winter. Havent seen it yet. Should it play well this 1st season and how long until we see improvements in the track?

It depends on how well the new grass has taken and how well it has been rolled plus how hard/dry the ground is underneath.
If it was well done there is no reason why it shouldn't be good, the weather has been favourable

It depends what you mean by relaid.

If the top 5 to 6 inches were skimmed off and replace then it should fine as long as it has been well looked after (eg good grass germination and plenty of rolling).

If it was completely relaid eg down to around 2 foot then there is no way you should be playing on it.

it took 3-4 years for ours to settle properly after it was moved 4-6ft one way so the one end was a bit dicey but fine now

Theres a number of factors  involved  but  It usually takes a bit of time for Newly   laid pitches to  settle down  having done the work over the winter
Ideally it should not be played on untill August with a view to a full seasons pitch in 2018.
