CP Original Cricket Bat
« on: May 12, 2017, 11:03:31 AM »

Just wondering if anyone has any experience using the CP original Cricket Bat? Would like to hear of some feedback please.

I see it reached IJC's number 1 bat for May, so curious if any forum members have any actual playing experience using this model?

Thanks.

Do IJC carry much stock or is it mainly order in stuff with a few bats carried from smaller brands?  It just seems odd GN, Kook etc rarely seem to make these lists, it seems only recently " hand picked " bats make these lists.

I got one but sent it back. Ping is PHENOMENAL , balance is unreal, finishing is very nice. Really superb bat, but the one I got was a few mm narrower near the sweet spot (almost as if it got squished while the edge stamping was done). They claimed it was a new technique to round the edges, but I didn't like it. You may want to check if the new batch has the same squishing of the width ... or you may not even care !

If it was that good a bat why didn't you keep it and use it? A few mm is pretty much unnoticeable

I have CP Epic and it has a nice ping to it. It is concaved so pick up is nice and feels quite well in hands.

Sweet.

Seems like there is a mixed view on the CP bats then? Well maybe not so true. Difficult to gauge.

Having seen a fair few in my time at IJC, I can say that I wasn't a massive fan in the past.

I had my suspicions on where they were made, the finishing wasn't great, and they were far from great to deal with.

However, we held some talks with them, and things have massively improved. The Original bats are genuinely special. The shape is aggressively Virat Kohli, duckbill etc, with 40mm+ edges. The handles are a touch thin for me, but double grip would fix that easily. The ping though, as the important thing, is always absolutely top of the range.

The reason these smaller brands come numbers 1 -3 most of the time is that the bats are just that good. IJC don't tend to stock many top end GN, Kookaburra, TON bats etc, so the top end is mostly smaller brands (£400 roughly for a top end, rather than £550+), hence why they tend to be the top.

Any other questions give me a shout - happy to try and help!

Because I am very picky - a few mm to me was noticeable. This is why I suggested that it may not even be an issue for other ppl.
