PUMA evoPower
« on: June 12, 2017, 01:01:55 PM »

What do people make of the Puma evoPower range?  I like the look and description of the 1 SE model (top of the range) but have never seen one or picked one up in person.  They are on sale at moment on some websites.  Does anyone have any experience with them?  Is there a big difference in the SE version and the Grade 1 version in terms of profile?

I heard they are made by the same people who make NB bats and are high quality.  To be honest I was thinking about a Millichamp and Hall bat but can't find any in the shape I like.  Plus their quality sounds like its quite random despite being 'made in England'.

Basically destroyed one of my GN bat on the weekend after many many attempts at trying to hit yorkers for six over mid off.  Thinking of something new and different...

Thank you in advance for any thoughts.

In fairness, the ones I've seen in the flesh are normally quite decent sized bats for the weight, but I still believe you'll do better elsewhere when spending that sort of money.

Will be worth taking a look at a few of the sponsors on here, price wise you'll be looking at top end G1 if that's your type of budget with the Puma's. You'll also almost certainly get a bat better suited to you than buying blind from the likes of PDC etc (especially when you can't specify an exact weight).

What neon said. They're nice bats, but with the money you'd be spending for one of them or an M&H you'll likely do better going to a batmaker or retailer near you than you will buying blind online.

I'm EvoSpeed SE 2015 FKW (Evopower SE pads, EvoSpeed looked naff.) And i rate the bats (Though most seem to rate the softs over the bats)

There shouldn't be any difference in the profile between the different grade, just aesthetics.

My SE does look very nice, but it wanted to be for the RRP (£600 in 2015!) I waited until Black Friday and got mine for £200.

I've also got an EvoSpeed 4 as a net bat, as you'd expect it has 5 fat grains.

Correct about the NB link, I've always assumed Sondhi made but nobody on the forum seems to be able to confirm the stamp mine has on the binding.

If money is no object and you really want Puma, I'd wait for next years stickers, much nicer than this years.

Great, thanks for the responses so far.

Do people think that the PUMA players grade willow is likely to be a less dense cleft - ie large for its weight?

I was looking at ordering two from PDC and then picking the one I like and returning one.  But yes I normally like to pick one up beforehand

Probably but not necessarily, teammate has a players grade one that is a good size but not a really big bat, whereas my g2 is huge. You're unlikely to get a small one in any grade from what I've seen, but wouldn't take that as gospel!

Just a heads up, if you're thinking of doing that to get the extra 15% discount for ordering 2 then you'll lose it if you send one back (a team-mate tried it before!)

No - wasn't even aware of the discount !! But good to know , thank you

The only reason why I am doing it is that if I went into a shop I would pick up at least two bats and check them for pick up, shape etc so this is the closest thing to doing that.  Its not ideal I admit but then I wouldn't be thinking of buying one if not for the fact they are currently on sale.  I assume PDC don't send anyone to hand pick them so I have no idea how they do quality control

I think I am starting to talk myself out of this... :)

Please do.

I haven't seen a 2016 spec in the flesh so would be nice to see what they look like outside of "Stock" images.

They don't hand pick them, you're right. Only problem with PDC, they aren't "Enthusiasts", they're pile em high sell em cheap merchants.
