Dawson looked pretty good tbf - living stone was fairly awful, Roy got a bad decision IMO (similar to the stokes decision against australia) why livingstone was near the England set up I'll never know in all honesty. Poor from Morgan as well low full toss clothed to a fielder - we have given that one away - good game of cricket none the less.

I think that's pretty harsh, he's had a great winter for the lion and has had one tough innings in a tight finish in a T20 on his debut for his country, madness to write someone off on that basis IMO.

Yea that's a bit tough, high pressure situation for the full side is different than lions cricket. You have to find out about the players after one game yes he didn't look great but it's just one game.

Huge plus Jason Roy back in some sort of form he's a very good player in a trot everyone has at some point. And YJB well just brilliant

Not writing him off on one innings I've personally never really rated him as a player always thought he looks a bit confused and didn't really know his game.

Not an easy situation to debut for Livingstone when chasing a steep target against a fired up SA..

I wouldn't say yjb was brilliant tonight yes he was good but he got out chipping tamely at the key time with 6 overs left, it was his wicket that started the slide he was set in 47 and could have gone on, didn't need to play the shot.

But hey ho look at the positives, he hit 47 and looked in good touch as usual, Jason Roy is back in form and Tom curran bowled well!

Onto Cardiff

Think it was good of England to mix it up and try to blood some new players in a game that carried some weight and added pressure to them rather than winning the series and playing them in a dead rubber for example.

He came in when we needed 40 off 33 not really that big an ask for an international T20 and had an in form set Roy at the other end at the start of his innings. Anyway it's done now and was a good game and I thought phelukwayo bowled bloody well - Morris too

Roy's moved to the other side of the pitch so he doesn't have to completely stop and turn round he maintains momentum by crossing the pitch

Spot on, that's why when you watch the best runners between wickets they run all the way around the stumps in a great big semi-circle so as to preserve their momentum when returning for the second run. It's like nobody on this forum watches cricket!

We all do it. And players still do, some are lucky not to get hit, some get hit by the balls miles away from the stumps so it doesnt matter. Everyone the jolt the oppositions decision making helps, had it not hit Roy there's no guarantee it would have actually hit anyway.

@Big Mac brilliant sarcastic response. If it had grounds I'd be inclined to agree. You don't see great runners between the wicket doing it because they have to stop, touch their bat down, and then they can push off get low and run again, Roy was turning round mid pitch and would not have been able to turn as if taking a second run, him stoping would have cost him all momentum, then if we turn to physics we can see that to restart after stopping he must overcome all of the forces acting on him to then get going again and would have to accelerate up to a top speed. This would be slower than half turning and running as he did. Yes he covers more ground, but he maintains a good speed and thus doesn't lose momentum. Furthermore, when running for a second you slow down for the last few steps because you know your coming back for 2 thus making turning easier, in this case Roy was going all out and this would have made turning difficult. I suggest next time you take a closer look at the situation before trying to belittle.

The umpire gets a couple of minutes to make the decision on the run out, have to say (and I posted earlier) pretty sure gut feeling was out at the time.

Having seen it again I'm now not as sure it was deliberate . The point I'm making is as mentioned by others no one really runs at full pelt in a straight line....

Wondering if anyone else if thinking differently having seen it a couple more times  :)

Except he did stop, turned around and then run diagonally to make sure he was in the way of the throw. Don't give me this conservation of momentum codswallop, this isn't A-level Physics.

He stops, keeps his eyes locked on the fielder and the ball as he runs over to the other side of the pitch. Roy is still watching the fielder as he shapes to throw and Roy is still watching and running diagonally even as the ball is released.

Roy doesn't take his eyes off the ball and straighten his run until the throw is halfway to him and he's confident that he's positioned himself in the way of the throw.

Unless you're going to tell me that the quickest way to run is to do so while looking over your shoulder, in which case someone needs to have a word with Usain Bolt and tell him he could have shaved another 0.3 seconds off his personal best if he didn't wait until the last 15 metres of his races to have a look behind him.

The only way it could have been any more blatant is if Roy did a few keepie-uppies and then volleyed the ball towards the boundary before running away to celebrate a goal.
