Edge crack

Hi,

I've acquired a Kookaburra Instinct 500 size 4 for my son and as per the image below it has been used without being properly knocked in.

There is crack on the inside edge (along with a load of seam marks on the face!) and I'd like to confirm the best way to deal with it.  I am going to refurb the thing so have taken off the stickers and will sand, oil and knock it in.

Should I just wrap some tape round the face of the bat once I've done the refurb covering the cracked area or should I apply some glue first then tape?

It looks like you should be able to stuff some PVA under the loose bit. Use a butter knife to prise the crack open a little, glue then tape down with parcel tape.
Once dry sand and oil.
As it's a junior bat it would probably be fine if you just taped it, but many of the junior balls used are poor quality so keep an eye on that.
Personally I would have kept the stickers on, but that's just my preference.

I'm hoping I can reapply the stickers.....especially as the lad liked them!

As an alternative to glue  when you sand most of the crack will disappear. Looking at the seam marks the blade  does need a to be knocked in. Might be worth applying a face sheet.

You're right, although its still there its a lot smaller.  I am thinking of using some tape or a sheet and will defo be knocking in.

£12.50 posted is the price for 2 metres. The cost per metre comes down on a sliding scale the more you order.

Thanks - I have some in my basket as we speak :-)

I am looking at grips - silly question time.....do grips come in smaller sizes for junior (size 4 bats) or do I buy a full size and cut it down?

ha thanks - just checking the lads colour requirements then order will be in.

As an aside...the blade looks a bit "messy" to me after sanding and a light coat of oil

The handles of the kids' bats tend to be thinner so a little self-amalgamating tape at the top and bottom can help hold them in place.
The cheapest place I have found for this is toolstation.
The 'messy' appearance of the bat is probably down to 'old oil' still on the blade. To get it an even colour, if that's what you want, you will have to sand more and sand out any old depressions/seam marks in the willow.

Ah hadn't thought about the width - hope they are ok. 

Not too fussed on the colour but was wondering if it was something I had done when sanding.
