Re your idea of clean skin bat selection , then get the corresponding stickers - that's a great idea , would be potentially an eye opener for some .... 'you mean i actually love Puma and Slazenger the best ? Really , must be some kind of mistake !' .
This pick your bat then get the stickers idea is kind of akin to those who blind date people on the internet based on 'personality' , then when they meet, one has to put up with a fat old heffa and the other a scrawny old baldie !

Let alone brands, dont even grade it, the marketing gimmick known as "player Willow" in my opinion is a myth. Not trying to sound pretentious but i know and have played with a lot of professional players and worked for the ICC and my State association, they have all used varying things, this common myth that they have to be 12+ grains no blemishes at all is a load of horse. I wont name names but one pro used a 6 grain bat which had 4 big knots in the face near the middle and he hit the ball as far as anyone running around

We get taken for a ride and really should be boycotting the ridiculous prices but unfortunately thats the material world we live in

For me, bats either ping or they dont, regardless of Grains/density/Heartwood.

I very much doubt that any brand "Ping tests" every bat before it leaves the workshop, (who's got time for that?) so you've got to get to the shop and do it yourself to find them.

Only "Holy Grail" bats are worth any kind of serious money. For a bat to be classed as "Holy Grail" it needs to be:

Pingy
15 Ruler straight grains
Low density

Best of luck finding it.

The holy grail is such a varied thing tho,
why low density? if a bat pings, who cares what the density is, and really the look factor purely sells bats as people almost cream themselves over a bat with grains. I keep seeing Gunn and moore Limited editions which look great but ping like my front door.
Ive used everywhere from 3 grains to 36 grains, at the end of the day, i still nick them, i still get bowled. It doesnt matter how it looks to me

I see your point.

Low density because it allows for a bigger bat at the desired weight.

15 straight grains because my potato prints are never going to outpoint Pablo Picasso in the desirability stakes.

You're not far off, I think. 2018 Legend RRP is �999.

Powerbow 6 and Legend gloves RRP at over �100. Kronus gloves (Hales new model) just under �100.The Top WK gloves are RRP �250.

Bear in mind though, these are RRP. Pretty much no retailer sells at RRP.

Pricing is getting crazier as they can be.

Bats are still being made from the same willows
As ever.
No new variety or grades have been discovered
As yet.
If the new ones are the best willows, then last
Year and before and before..... which were those willows??
Are these bats just meant for rich brats to brag as the
Proud limited owners

World knows now India is super power in making bats for
Most brands world wide!!! Still people want to spend for stickers
$1500 come on still can digest ......

Supply and demand.

Demand is high but from what I've read, it would seem supply is not what it once was? So demand high but supply low = high prices.

Sponsorship deals increasing every year don't help either
